Don't abandon us now, Afghanistan urges world

STRASBOURG, France, May 10 (Reuters) - President Hamid Karzai urged the world on Tuesday not to desert Afghanistan after polls last September because it would need aid and security assistance for years to come.

The parliamentary elections mark the end of the so-called Bonn Process, a U.N.-backed plan to help rebuild the poor Muslim state after the overthrow of the militant Taliban in 2001. Some 25,000 foreign troops, mostly American, remain on Afghan soil.

Karzai warned stability remained under threat from insurgents and the existence of a huge opium-producing industry.

He told a news briefing after the speech the Afghan people "wholeheartedly welcomed" international peacekeepers in their country as a sign the world remained committed to helping Afghanistan.

6. The title should read...
Don't abandon us now! We like your money!

As soon as we pull the plug on the cash flow, be prepared for the taliban to make a surge back to power.

7. He doesn't get it, does he?
C'mon, Hamid, pick up your $50 from the nightstand and get the hell out, you're stinkin' up the place!

Hope he still controls that corridor to the airport, along wwith the 6 blocks of downtown Kabul that he has. Sounds like he may need to make a getaway soon...

You'd think he would have figured it out after his last visit to DC where after the Photo-Op, nobody wanted to be anywhere near him.
