EADS, Raytheon in Pentagon bid?

Report: European aerospace group tries to expand in world's top military market using U.S. partners.
May 10, 2005:

NEW YORK (Reuters) - European aerospace group EADS and Raytheon Co. are expected to announce they will team up to bid on a Pentagon contract for Army transport planes, a newspaper report said Tuesday.

The move marks another step by EADS to expand in the world's biggest military market using a model it will need to compete for the Pentagon's future tanker-aircraft program -- a U.S. company acting as prime contractor for a plane developed and largely built abroad, the Wall Street Journal said.

EADS is already pursuing a U.S. partner for the Air Force aerial-refueling planes.

In addition to Raytheon (up $0.70 to $39.44, Research) and EADS, Alenia Aeronautica SpA, a unit of Italy's Finmeccanica SpA and Lockheed Martin Corp. (up $0.42 to $63.45, Research), are also vying for the army contract to replace existing small planes, the report
said.
