Iraqi president: militants funded from abroad
Iraqi president: militants funded from abroad
By Suleiman al-Khalidi

AMMAN (Reuters) - Iraq's two-year insurgency led by al Qaeda's Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is being funded by supporters of a strict Saudi-based Muslim sect and some foreign countries, the Iraqi president said, without naming the states involved.

President Jalal Talabani told Reuters in an interview he believed Zarqawi had nevertheless been weakened and isolated and there was no fear of civil war in Iraq, which has suffered a spate of bombings designed to undermine its new government.

The veteran Kurdish leader, sworn in a month ago as the first non-Arab president of an Arab nation, said late on Sunday Zarqawi was backed by extremists across the region.

"They are getting aid from al Qaeda and from some financiers among some extremist Muslim organizations from Wahabi extremists abroad and from countries that I will not name," he said.

4. gratuitous: Iraqi "government" funded from abroad
And there IS a very real possibility of civil war in Iraq, Mr. Talabani. If you could venture outside the Green Zone, you and your foreign sponsors might have a little better appreciation of this danger, and do something about it.

Pinhead.

6. The U.S. army is funded from abroad too.
And that is who is propping up the Iraqi government, such as it is. This ranks right up there in the annals of hypocrisy.

7. American Revolution...
was supported by only about 1/3 of the colonial population.... funding and military aid came from abroad (France)....occupation by a world power.....terrorism..... guerrilla warfare... etc

I wonder if anybody but me sees any comparisons.
