http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-cops09.htmlCook County Criminal Court Judge Marjorie Laws wondered about the inconsistencies in Chicago Police Officer Broderick Jones' testimony back in 2003.
Jones couldn't remember exactly where he was standing when he allegedly watched Dwayne Smith selling cocaine in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. Still, the judge sentenced Smith to 10 years in prison after finding the officer was a credible witness.
Now Smith is among a growing list of people seeking to have their convictions overturned or have charges dropped because Jones and three other Chicago cops were charged in January with being drug dealers themselves. snip
Jones was supposed to be answering phones last year in the city's 311 non-emergency call center. But the 33-year-old officer, nicknamed "Thirsty" on the street, was heading a crew of rogue officers who robbed drug dealers of narcotics and money, federal prosecutors say.
Jones was charged with conspiracy to distribute more than 5 kilograms of cocaine along with Officers Corey A. Flagg, Darek A. Hayes and Eural J. Black.
