Court rules county can't flatly deny medical care
By: MARK WALKER - Staff Writer
SAN DIEGO ---- A pretrial ruling Friday in a case that could greatly expand the number of people to whom San Diego County must provide medical services went in favor of one of the plaintiffs suing for medical care.
Superior Court Judge Ronald L. Styn granted an injunction that requires County Medical Services to provide medical care to Eric Bromberg, a 29-year-old San Ysidro man, without first fully considering his ability to pay for those services.
After it has done that, the county must show why it continues to believe it should not have to help pay for Bromberg's care, the judge ruled.
While Friday's ruling will apply only to Bromberg, the overall case could have wide-ranging implications for low-income county residents seeking health care.
