Hundreds protest against Bush visit
Hundreds of Dutch protesters have rallied against US President George W Bush's first visit to the Netherlands, many venting anger over the US-led invasion of Iraq. Mr Bush is due to arrive in the southern Netherlands from Latvia late on Saturday evening

He will attend a ceremony on Sunday to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe, before flying on to Russia and Georgia. Several hundred people, mainly opponents of the Iraq war, gathered outside the US consulate in Amsterdam today.

They waved old Soviet flags and placards with slogans like "Stop Bush" and "If you want to stop terrorism, stop participating in it". The Dutch Government supported the 2003 invasion of Iraq and sent some 1,350 troops to help patrol the country after the war, despite domestic opposition.

It kept soldiers there when Spain withdrew following the Madrid train bombings in March 2004, but recently pulled them out after opposition parties refused to extend their mandate.

1. I turned on the TV news and Bush was speaking live.....
....What a lousy public speaker! He droned on and on about absolutely nothing. Within 90 seconds paralysis had set in on my body and brain and it was all I could do to press the channel changer on my TV remote.

2. Goody...I sell a lot of Anti-Bush stuff to the Netherlands
"A lot" is a relative term. It's not like I ship boatloads of stuff. But "BushCo" t-shirts have been pretty good sellers over there. Also, my cartoons get picked up every now and then by a couple Netherlands boards. But I can never read the comments!

4. "If you want to stop terrorism, stop
participating in it." Now that would make a good bumper sticker, pin, t-shirt! Or how about a banner attached to a plane, the sentiment spread far and wide?

7. that photo reminds me to ask the question i've always forgot to ask
why is it whenever there's a peace poster, it's also referred to as an anti-bush poster? the people defining it, almost always some MSM with bush sympathies abound, obviously are too ignorant to see the irony.

9. Only 100 protesters
were allowed to protest at the airport where Bush is landing. I believe they are placed behind the place where the plane is landing so of course Bush will never ever see them (surprise surprise. And all this in a country where freedom of speech should be one of the most important things). He´s gonna think every single person in Holland totally loves and adores him. This is like the days before the Iraqi war all over again. Who cares if almost every single person in Holland hates Bush and his plans... our government loves him so that´s how it´s gonna be.

I hope one person will have the chance to kick his ass and end this freaking Truman show.

17. And the ABC radio newsbreak just said...
that he was greeted with tulips.

Unless the protestors were holding tulips, I think this world news broadcast must have 'forgotten' to mention them.
