Crash Kills Texas Lawmaker (Moreno)
HOUSTON — A member of the Texas House of Representatives died early Friday when he flipped his pickup truck after attending an NBA playoff game here. The accident injured a second legislator, along with another lawmaker's chief of staff.

Rep. Joseph Moreno, 40, a Democrat who had represented a working-class, largely Latino district on Houston's East Side since 1998, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Tom Vinger, a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman.
...
He often collaborated with Republicans, but could be fiercely partisan. He was, for example, an enthusiastic participant when Democrats fled in 2003 to Oklahoma in an effort to block a GOP redistricting plan.

1. Sad, story, I wonder what kind of crap DeLay is going to say on his grave.
Delay seems like the kind of evil man that would relish this.

2. I can't help but wonder if it was really an accident.
I don't feel bad about that either. When ever a Dem or liberal lawmaker dies in an accident my first thought is, what right wing group killed them.

I think that if we knew all that was going on behind the scenes we would be appalled and then again maybe we wouldn't.

I know there may be nothing more here than an accident but at this point in the game I would like to see the proof that it was not murder before I'm willing to think it wasn't.

4. Conspiracies are REAL, I wouldn't doubt it for a second......
Amazing how all the people dying of "accidents" lately are Dems? And especially this one who is probably a thorn in Delay's side?

5. Nah, it was just an accident
There's no reason to kill a Democrat in Texas, especially one who crosses party lines now and then. Just not enough of us to worry about, and his district will go to another Democrat, anyway.

Tragic and sad. He was a good man, from what I've heard.

17. Two Dems survived the crash. If it was suspicious I imagine that

they will speak out about it. If their story doesn't jive with the official line then I'll start to worry.

But I agree, there is always reason for suspicion when something like this happens to a Dem legislator or a liberal journalist or a peace activist, etc.

RWers are often conscienceless and have a long prolific history of corruption, murder and other dirty deeds.

6. This repub didn't let the tragedy interfere with her wedding

AUSTIN – Rep. Mary Denny sat at her desk on the House floor, mourning the sudden, tragic death of a fellow lawmaker as her colleagues sobbed at the microphone just in front of her.

Her wedding cake sat majestically in the back hall, waiting for the most joyous moment of Ms. Denny's life.
...
After the eulogies for Mr. Moreno, the tearful representatives retreated to a room off the floor to talk to the media. Cameras caught the pink dresses or ties they had donned for the wedding.

On the other side of the door, guests of Ms. Denny and her fiance, Norman Tolpo, 69, drifted in. The bride disappeared to change into her dress. Strains of "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" greeted arrivals.

Knowing of the rancor btwn the parties, how can this have been appropriate?

7. Her wedding memories will be forever marred by the death of Moreno.
Depending on the size and logistics of the wedding, it isn't practical to delay it. Moreno, I'm thinking, would not have wanted her to postpone it anyway. From what I recall, Moreno was a super guy.

Usually weddings are not postponed unless it's a death in the family, if I remember my etiquette.
