MIAMI · States such as Florida that enact laws to improve tracking of sex offenders would be eligible for federal money under legislation proposed Friday by U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson.
Nelson, D-Fla., said the bill would authorize up to $30 million in Justice Department grants for states that use satellites to track offenders convicted of preying on children if they get out of prison.
Responding to the killings of two Florida girls, allegedly by convicted sex offenders, Gov. Jeb Bush last week signed into law a measure toughening penalties on child molesters and requiring many of them to wear satellite tracking devices for the rest of their lives if released.
"To be effective, however, tough laws must be properly funded," Nelson said.
Nelson said his bill would authorize $10 million in grants this year and $20 million next year to be shared by states that adopt satellite tracking of sex offenders. The measure will be introduced in the U.S. Senate on Monday.

If you remember, John Kerry's worst photo from this trip with Bill Nelson to Cape Canaveral was used exhaustively by the MSM, when they could have just as easily used this one, in which he looks terrific, all things considered.
How would any of THEM look in one of these outfits? Cheap entertainment for right-wing dipsticks.
