Bolton Warnings From Both Parties -CBS
(CBS/AP) A former senior intelligence official came forward Friday to speak against President George W. Bush's U.N. ambassador nomination. So did Colin Powell's former right-hand man. And Democrats are holding onto their critique of John R. Bolton's leadership style.
...
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell's chief of staff, Larry Wilkerson, told Senate investigators Friday that it would be a mistake to confirm Bolton as U.N. ambassador, CBS News Correspondent Gloria Borger reports.

Likewise, the former intelligence official told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff that Bolton vastly overstated the military might of Syria and Cuba.
...
Powell's former chief of staff, Wilkerson, gave details that seem to confirm Westermann's story. He told committee aides that Powell, who has not endorsed Bolton for the U.N. job, would "go down to the bowels of the building" to try to boost the morale of analysts who had clashed with Bolton, aides said.

7. But so utterly Chimpy. King George could tear up an anvil. Why isn't the
GOP stepping in? Why doesn't anyone in the MSM asked why only Bolton? Or why only the 10 judges that Chimpy is insisting on? What is the deal here? In a country of almost 300 million, Bushybot couldn't find anyone just as qualified and yet not so controversial? I could mark it down to just a three-year-old tantrum of a spoiled rich kid who has always gotten his way. But why is the GOP letting the "moran" self destruct the way they are? They want the "nukular" option, they want to split the country apart is all I can see. Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face. They are going down with the faux cowboy and he will be back at the "ranch" milking stallions long after they are still trying to recover some semblance of credibility or honesty.

(quote marks and nicknames just seem a way of life when trying to talk about these yahoos)

14. Actually I think
they want Bolton in the UN in order to avoid a diplomatic solution over Iran. They need someone who is able to antagonize everybody he meets. Bolton is perfect. Then they will have "no choice but to resort to military force" when they fail to reach an agreement with other counttries on sanctions and what kind of nuclear activities are appropriate for Iran to engage in.

That's the only rational explanation I can conceive of.

15. I think it's a move to block sanctions against the US
they want a bully to stare down the coming opposition, they don't want anyone coming back to the Western White House with a list of UN demands.

The unholy trinity of electronic snooping: Bolton, Negroponte and Hayden

By Wayne Madsen
Online Journal Contributing Writer

May 5, 2005—As the Senate Foreign Relations Committee prepares to vote on the nomination of Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security John Bolton to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, further details are emerging from within the U.S. Intelligence Community on unofficial and back channel intelligence operations directed over the past four years from neo-conservative cells in Vice President Dick Cheney's office, the Pentagon, the State Department, and the National Security Agency (NSA).

....

1. NSA has recorded tactical communications intelligence—overheard on a speaker system in the NSOC—that demonstrates that United Flight 93 was shot down by U.S. fighter planes over Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001, and the Bush administration concocted a phony "patriotic" cover story about the passengers and crew deliberately crashing the plane into the ground.

2. NSA conducted telephone surveillance of phone calls between Secretary of State Colin Powell and New Mexico Democratic Governor and former ambassador to the UN Bill Richardson concerning a visit by a North Korean UN delegation to New Mexico to meet with the governor in an attempt to reinstate direct negotiations with the U.S. government over nuclear issues.

3. NSA possesses communications intelligence that proves the A.Q. Khan nuclear smuggling ring in Pakistan was also selling nuclear components to Saudi Arabia.

Just the usual speculations and rumors that he doesn't think Bolton's a good choice.

If someone knows better I will happily stand corrected.

12. Every other living Republican Sec. of State has
endorsed Bolton, and Powell has made it very clear that he has not so I think that is about all we can expect of him.

17. I think it's pretty well known
that Powell has spoken to Senators on the committee who are on the fence or have questions about not approving this Bozo. Richard Armitage is supposedly in on it as is Powell's former chief of staff, who just gave an interview with the NY Times last week. He wouldn't do that w/out Powell's consent. I read an article in Salon by Sidney Blumenthal that said Armitage supposedly let the Senators know that if they wanted to talk they could call Powell. Powell is being as public as he can be w/out being unseemly.
Apparently Powell is in a pitch battle with Condi over this and took her by surprise with his anti-Bolton campaign. Knowing how incompetent Condi is, my bet is on Powell.

16. I like the Colin Powell who would go to the "bowels of the building" --
-- to support and inspire Bolton's victims a LOT better than the Colin Powell who lied through his teeth to the United Nations on weapons of mass destruction.

19. So what day are we in now, of the Bolton Nomination Death Watch?
As the sun sinks slowly in the west, we bid a fond farewell, to the curiously scruffy, moustachioed, Bolton, a mild mannered public servant, just doing his job and hoping for a pat on the back and a pension.

I think I just heard * screaming, pounding his fists on the floor, and kicking his puppy. Now, now. No tantrums. Uncle Cheney won't let you ride in the front seat of the chopper any more. And no lollipops.

I sooo hope they are all miserable.
Their missery and anger is the only glimmer of joy I can squeeze out from this abyssmal admin.

Oh, no... four more years of this shit.
