Bush Marks National Day of Prayer

WASHINGTON - President Bush bowed his head Thursday to mark the National Day of Prayer, giving thanks for freedom and asking God's help in defending it.

The president, who says he prays every day, did so this time in front of an East Room filled with people of many different faiths. Bush said freedom is a gift from God meant for all people and he prays "for help in defending the gift of freedom from those who seek to destroy it."

(from your link) Governmental authority does not reach so far, constitutionally, to be able to tell a citizen when s/he must pray, (even if it is not under color of actual law but rather a proclamation). I understand your point about Truman, etc, but this illustrates the *why* of church/state separation.

Didn't do much good she still hated him. Harry was a foul mouthed, get what you see, I don't care what you think, member of the old school (which he never attended). He had regular run ins with Baptist (fundies of his day, I apologize to any Baptists) and other phonies (his words for such people) as a child and expressed this disdain until the day he died. Two people he hated with a passion was Richard Nixon, and Warren Hearnes (Democratic Governor of Missouri, who was a big time fundie, same jerk that offered to defend Spiro Agnew).

Harry was a complex man and made decisions I would not have wanted to make.

Yes I am a Harry Truman apologist, since he is dead and not here to kick my ass for saying that.
