Iraq raid nets Hassan murder suspects
Edited on Sun May-01-05 07:54 AM by ECH1969
US and Iraqi forces raided a suspected insurgent hide-out near Baghdad and arrested several people believed linked to the killing of British aid worker Margaret Hassan.

They say 11 people have been detained, including five of who have admitted complicity in the murder of Ms Hassan.

Ms Hassan, a British national who was head of CARE International in Iraq, was kidnapped last October.

"We are aware that a raid was conducted and that items were recovered that we believe may belong to Margaret Hassan," a spokesman for the British embassy said.

1. Beat somebody enough
and they'll admit to anything.

2. Yes amazing what a little abuse will get one to admit to.
Did they just admit complicity or did they provide CONCLUSIVE PROOF that illustrated complicity?

3. Or...
Was conclusive proof drilled into their minds so that they repeat that which is provided by their interogators, accepting it as their own words over time.

4. it never fails
whenever their has been a wave of violence in iraq, a few hours later a story is released claiming some victory or accomplishment

I do not believe ANYTHING that is reported from the U.S. press, or feed by the pentagon

5. BBC Link: Five 'confess to Hassan killing'
From the BBC Online
Dated Sunday May 1

Five 'confess to Hassan killing'

Five people have confessed to the kidnap and killing of British aid worker Margaret Hassan, Iraqi police have said.

US and Iraqi forces raided a suspected insurgent hideout in Madain, 25 miles south east of Baghdad, on Sunday.

Police said they recovered ID, clothing and a handbag belonging to Mrs Hassan.

The Dublin-born 59-year-old had lived in Iraq for 30 years when she was abducted on 19 October. Her body has never been recovered.

7. It certainly is unusual that 5 people
should all confess at the same time....eh?

Unless they're somewhere like Abu Ghraib of course.

The "Five confess" headline has now been massaged a little to cater for the more discerning surfer... it now reads "Three quizzed..."

Now that doesn't sound half as chilling does it???

Still, it all serves as a timely reminder to the UK electorate, just why their troops need to be there!

8. This evidence (if true) could have been planted.
It seems odd that killers wouldn't get rid of this sort of damning evidence pretty quickly. I mean, keep your victims ID?

9. Good, If True
I hope that at least some of the villains associated with Margaret Hassan's kidnapping and murder were captured. Whatever the criminal follies the US has committed in the course of Georgii Idioticus' Big Sandy Adventure, I think that Hassan's kidnapping and killing was a cowardly and despicable act.

It is unfortunate that Iraq still lacks a sovereign, self-determining government. I would like to see the scumballs responsible for Hassan's killing to be justly tried and punished.

11. Kind of hard to have a sovereign, self-determining government...
...while under foreign occupation. And no aid workers were dying in Iraq before the invasion and occupation. I wonder if there might be a connection there somewhere?
