After Cluster of Freeway Shootings, L.A. Wonders if It's Back to the Bad Old Days

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A string of highway shootings since mid-March has left four people dead in Southern California and raised fears of a return to the bad old days of the 1980s, when the Los Angeles area gained a reputation for freeway gunplay.

Authorities have increased freeway patrols and considered installing recorders on roadside traffic cameras.

Five people have been shot in their cars in apparently unrelated - and definitely unsolved - attacks. In at least three cases, the shooters were in other cars.

Manny Padilla, a California Highway Patrol chief in Southern California, said the bloodshed may reflect frustration with gridlock.

22. I don't even bother correcting this stuff anymore.
Had a young woman architect going over some building plans and she was presenting the "Color Palate". Didn't know the roof of my mouth came with optional shades!

15. What motivates that shit?
Please, do tell. Comparing a five year old knocking something off a desk to murder. Does it make you feel superior? What?

24. It's primitive simian territoriality
Great apes, especially sexually mature males, will defend their territory aggressively even when it is not actually being attacked or when doing so works against their best interests.

Traffic snarls bring out the ape in some of us.

3. I live in LA County and
I don't think it is so much frustration with gridlock as frustration with the whole rotten system and the ugly turn this country has taken. :-(

27. People are definitely on edge everywhere
Just like the good old days, 1980's. Reaganomics remember. Don't know what you call Bush's blunderings. You name it he has screwed it up. It is truly hard to remember the Clinton era when people thought that it was so easy for America to come out of the economic disaster of Reagan/bush, since it certainly couldn't have been his doings, people were upbeat, crime down, more cops of the streets, POSITIVE was Clintons legacy. We all watch the news now and hear how the corps and their leaders are filthy rich, oil co. never had it so good and are not about to give us a price break on the gas. Sooo, we watch more tv showing how great we are doing while we have little money in our pockets. Credit cards getting hammered and now they are disallowing some of cc debt if filing bkcy. Oh, it's all good. People are putting off buying stuff or can't. Yet we are told all indicators say our economy is good and getting better. The market is spastic. Who can tell.

"Cul de Sac: A Suburban War Story" (2002)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317273/

Only an hour or so long, but really good. It ties the San Diego meth-head culture into the massive loss of jobs in the area, and goes thru a history of the Claremont suburb. It even brings up the roots of tweaking in WWII abuse of meth by bomber crews, etc.

One really ironic note: interviews with a minimum-wage security guard at the razed General Dynamics plant. He used to work there, for more than minimum wage...

If all of these people had guns would they have been shot? They certainly wouldn't have been shot if hardly anyone had guns...

Or even-odd rationing.
Then you'll see some shooting.

and that was back when this area (NY) had half the population we have today. What a nightmare rationing would be now ...
