'Jeff Gannon,' Uninvited to WHCA Dinner, Heads to Bill Maher's HBO Show

By Joe Strupp

Published: April 29, 2005 10:40 AM ET

NEW YORK James D. Guckert, aka Jeff Gannon, has proved his critics wrong on at least one count: His 15 minutes of fame just won't expire.
Need more proof? He's set to appear on Bill Maher's live HBO show tonight at 11 p.m. EDT, along with Sen. Charles Schumer, Martin Short, and others. On his Web site today, Gannon announces: "I'll go one on one with . ... We're going to talk about politics, last night's presidential press conference, and probably some other stuff."

The HBO Web site confirms that Gannon is slated to appear.

However, the former White House correspondent, and reputed male escort, did not get the invitation he had expected to the White House Correspondents Association dinner tomorrow night. Gannon, who quit his job with Talon News earlier this year after two years of covering the White House for the GOP-linked site, told the New York Post that he did not get invited to the annual WHCA gathering, slated for Saturday night in Washington.

Gannon had told E&P several months ago that he was sure to get an invite. But, according to the Post, it did not come through. "It seems to me to be odd to exclude the one person who has brought more attention to the White House press corps than anyone else in years," Gannon told the Post. "Probably many who would want to extend such an invitation already assume I will be in attendance."

Gannon's Web site, www.jeffgannon.com, makes no mention of the upcoming dinner.
Don't look for Bill Maher to be too cozy with Gannon. In one show this year, Maher commented on Gannon's past, saying, "Now I know what Bush meant when he said he had a man date."

12. I think the opposite is going to happen...
...my money is on JimmyJeff storming off the set.

His 15 minutes won't end because for two reasons:

1) He is a sorry freakshow.
2) The MSM keeps giving him airtime. No doubt anything controversial happening tonight will result in a few more cable news appearances, which is more than likely counting on.

13. I dunno... I think it might be worth watching...
It'll be the first venue he's been interviewed in, in which the questions can be as graphic as they need to be (to find out more about the escort thing). Who knows? Maybe Guckert will slip and reveal his WH sexual contact?

Can you imagine Leslie Blitzer aasking Guckert about his '8" cut' wanker? I'm sure Maher will probably ask him, and it'll be fun watching Guckert squirm when he does.

it's amazing that so many people on the left can be so intolerant of the slightest difference with their own all-hallowed opinions...especially when they turn around and berate rethugs and and their apologists as being in 'lockstep'.

as for me- i'm tuning in to bill as i always do...i'm not scared of hearing a thing or two that i don't completely agree with- it usually happens.

conservative audience lately (I'm sure by the heads of HBO). This one should be a doozie.

There's a poll on the HBO website: Should the Pope be held accountable for the church's record in priest abuse scandals? Right now it's 82% yes and 18% no. Here's the link if you want to vote:
http://www.hbo.com/billmaher/. I don't know if B.M. (oh, that doesn't sound good, does it?) will talk about this poll, even tho it's on his page.

65. I don't feel sorry for him
Guckert is a stupid SOB who obviously suffers from delusions. The guy was a two-bit (or $200) hooker whose boyfriend(s) set him up as a phony journalist. Instead of realizing what he is, a whore with fake credentials, Guckert insists on trying to pretend he's legit. He acts like he's a few chromosomes sort of a genome, but that hardly qualifies him for pity.

The cute part about Guckert's delusional whining about not getting invited to the correspondents' dinner is that he still thinks he's one of them. Isn't it sweet that poor l'il Jimmy still feels like a media whore, when all the world knows that he's just a whore, period.

(click on Ask Bill)

Ask Bill Maher to not chicken-out and ask Gannon the serious questions that the MSM (most notoriously Wolf Blitzer) basically avoided asking this shady character.

Tell Bill Maher to get real answers from Gannon about his prostitution links. There's a treasure trove for a comedian in that! No softballs allowed (pun intended)

Bill Maher is on HBO and they can show all the pictures from Guckert's escort website including the shots of him "standing at attention". Guckert is a dumbass to think Maher has him on there because he (Maher) thinks of Guckert as some sort of equal.

25. If that's the case..............
.............then Maher's as guilty as the White House Squatters for giving Gannon even an air of respectability.

The only reason to allow this con man to take up air time would be to whack him as hard as possible about the shit he's pulled. After all, this artful whore - not Maher, Gannon - got paid to misrepresent himself, and to mislead the American people into thinking he was really a journalist.

In some circles, that's called "fraud," and there are places where you really can get punished for it.

21. Gannon/Guckert will be lost without
his White House faxed talking points. Or maybe his honey in the House is still sending them to him. He never did write anything for Talon. He cut and pasted the press releases. Don't expect any depth or perspective. He was a plant. Paid for by Texas oil money. (just like the Swiftboat Liars). And, yet, he was so protected that Scotty McClellan's careful vetting after 9-11 never showed how completely fabricated Gannon is. Not a journalist. Not a Marine. Not even his real name. And yet Hannity referred to him as a "distinguished journalist".
This administration has no clothes.

Gannon had told E&P several months ago that he was sure to get an invite. But, according to the Post, it did not come through. Gan/uckert, a gay male prostitute who has a $5 course in "journalism" hangs out with some whores in the WH and thinks that he's a real journalist and should be treated as such.

Perhaps not as crazy as the chimp himself being hustled into the bunker because a cloud was moving towards his command post. Onion? no... Guardian. Of course the $5 journalists in the US aren't reporting that one. Maybe Ganuckert could be considered a true American journalist after all.

37. I hope that Mahr treats Guckert fairly...
Edited on Fri Apr-29-05 03:26 PM by TwoSparkles
...because, after all--it's obvious that Guckert had high-level access to the White House and was being USED by an administration that is now sprinting from him--like a pack of weasels.

What a bunch of reptilian, leech-like vermin. These guys will exploit a male prostitute, plant him in the press corp--and then run like hell when the truth is exposed--because they know that America will be so hyperfocused on the "blow-job aspects" of this story.

I see Guckert as someone who is struggling and in pain. NO one prostitutes themselves from a position of strength. He's not healthy. People in power and people with money use him like an object, and now they've relegated him to the trash bin. Remember, Guckert is a man who attended White House parties and made more than 200 visits, some of them overnight, to the White House.

Guckert is responsible for his behavior. He's made poor choices, but he's obviously a former abuse victim or someone who is in deep pain--to objectify himself in the ways that he has.

Now, the very snakes who catalyzed Guckert's notoriety--are running for the hills.

I hope Mahr asks Guckert thoughtful, probative questions. Can't we all agree that the "man date" jokes are a bit old? This story goes way beyond sex. It's about the White House power brokers exploiting a weaker human being; and it's also about the neocons using Christianity--to which NONE of them subscribe--to cull votes from an unsuspecting flock. Furthermore, it's about reckless abuse of power that is totally out of control.

Someone needs to start asking the important questions, instead of hee hee-ing and ha-ha-ing over anal sex.

I hope Mahr doesn't waste this opportunity.

about being a Marine. My son is a Marine...so I'm a little angry that Gannon/Guckert falsely represented himself as a soldier. I loathe the chickenhawks. Loathe them. So when one of these guys goes all macho "I'm a Warrior!" and it turns out he's just a swaggering poser...well, it's irritating as hell. If you're so in love with the idea of being a soldier (like Dubya strutting in his flight suit), then enlist. Go to Iraq. Otherwise, shut up with the "bring it on" talk. Shut up.

45. I hate headlines like this
I realize that most reporters don't write their own headlines. I realize that a headline's main purpose is to get someone to read the reporter's story. But I don't see why it's asking so much to write headlines that have an actual RELATIONSHIP to the story. The "Gannon Uninvited" headline is NOT "paid off" by the report--in order to be "un-invited," you have to be "invited" to begin with.

Gannon may have been "sure" he was getting an invite based on his bringing "more attention to the White House press corps than anyone else in years." But wondering if no one as sent him an invite because they "assume" that somebody else sent him one, then he is now struggling to be someone's guest, not an invitee!

50. I can't wait to see how this goes...
I wonder if someone will ask him why Guckert was allowed into the white house, every other night when people weren't even on duty? Hmmm...

52. I think it's great for him to get more exposure.
That way it will become clear that his is not very literate, and probably didn't write his own pieces on Talon and/or FreeRepublic.

53. I'd start it slow. nice and rhythmical

ask him sweet nothing questions about current events. let Gannon pretend to be a journalist.

then give him the whack on the back of the head: put up images from Gannon's escort pics as he's talking.

It's kind of like what Hollywood did to Paris Hilton. She was at a showbiz party acting all mighty and the host started running her porn tape on all the widescreens.

58. Maher better destroy Gannon
If Maher goes easy on the White House Hooker, then it will prove that he's just another Dennis "Zell" Miller.

64. "Probably many who would want to extend such an invitation already assume
I will be in attendance." Heh. Sounds like a classic case of rationalization to me.
