Racial Data Sought for Bush Event
The Secret Service has requested racial information on journalists and guests scheduled to attend a reception tomorrow night with President Bush.

White House reporters said they were offended that after furnishing the customary information -- name, date of birth and Social Security number -- they were also asked for the race of each person expected to attend the small reception scheduled before the White House Correspondents' Association's annual dinner.

3. I could see it as a security thing, but a photo of the person would
make more sense. It would be hilarious if everyone who got sent to this event was a minority.

7. That was my thought too, but then Racists R Dumb
But it may not even have been a real federal agent. It could have been those WH pre-event stooges seem to show up everywhere and that rousted the people in Colorado.

16. It would be easier to get a "race" fact than a photo.
I hate to side with anyone near the Bush administration on this, but it only seems like an unusual request because this is such a racist administration.

5. Perhaps they're hoping some non-whites will attend....
So they can be featured in photo ops.

Otherwise, his gatherings tend to be blindingly white.

10. Yeah, I remember that, too.
I guess they see nothing wrong with a little in-your-face racism (I'm sure their 'base' has no problem with it).

Bush camp solicits race of Star staffer

President Bush's re-election campaign insisted on knowing the race of an Arizona Daily Star journalist assigned to photograph Vice President Dick Cheney.

The Star refused to provide the information.

Cheney is scheduled to appear at a rally this afternoon at the Pima County Fairgrounds.

A rally organizer for the Bush-Cheney re-election campaign asked Teri Hayt, the Star's managing editor, to disclose the journalist's race on Friday. After Hayt refused, the organizer called back and said the journalist probably would be allowed to photograph the vice president.

9. They need enough token representation without offending the white fatcats
So they can say, "See? We're not prejudiced. We had (X number) blacks and (X number) Asians and (X number) ..."

Well, you get the idea.

11. Whenever I look at footage of those megachurches
I am always surprised at how white the audiences always are.
Expecially considering the sheer amount of Black people who live in the Bible Belt.

12. How very republican.
I think this probably is for photo op management purposes but you never know. Bush may be afraid of offending the CCC.

Is the guest speaker in the Klan?

Are they afraid of offending the racists?

21. This is not the first time, by a stretch!
This has been reported for several events, during his recent campaign. Obviously.. the journalists in America have no interest in doing their job, and made no stink about it while the dipshit was running for reselection. Now they complain?
