Iraq death car arrives in Italy
27 April, 2005

The car in which an Italian secret agent died shielding a hostage from US "friendly fire" in Iraq has arrived in Italy for investigators to inspect.

An Italian air force cargo plane delivered the Toyota Corolla to a base near Rome days after reports suggested America had cleared its soldiers.

Rome is still investigating the death of agent Nicola Calipari, who died as his car approached a US checkpoint.

You would think they could have gotten the car out of the body shop sooner than this?

2. justice delayed is justice denied
I would like to apologize to all the Italian people for this, we in America are so sorry that this happened, our troops are over worked,
and there seems to be a lack of accountability which is hard to understand, we truly regret this.

6. We are sorry!
We should start a Sorry Italy site somewhat equivilant
to the "We're sorry world" after the 2004 stolen election.

11. Couldn't the car seats be moved
into a different car body?

It has been a long time that this car has stayed in Iraq in U.S. custody.

10. Shots came from behind
Even this bad picture shows that the shots came from behind. There's little damage to the front or side. But you can see that the rear window is completely shot out.

This makes a lie of the US claims that they shot into the engine block to stop the car. Also makes it highly unlikely that signals or warning shots were fired--why would two security agents ignore such signals? These are not benighted Iraqi citizens.

Finally, this was no checkpoint--the US tank was clearly not blocking the road, but parked beside the road, just like Sgrena said.
