Nation’s largest mental health provider quietly reappoints anti-gay therapist

By Michael Rogers, for RAWSTORYQ

In a reversal of a decision first reported by RAWSTORYQ, Erin Somers a spokeswoman for Magellan Health Services has confirmed that the company has decided to reappoint reparative therapist Dr. Warren Throckmorton, right, to its National Professional Advisory Council.

In March, RAWSTORYQ had reported that Throckmorton would not be appointed to the company’s restructured committee. At the time, Somers stated, “The decision was made out of concern that certain of Dr. Throckmorton’s views could be potentially controversial to Magellan stakeholders and that such a controversy would be a distraction to work of the council.”

Kathleen DeBold, left, executive director of the Mautner Project, a national organization focused on lesbian health care expressed surprise and disappointment with Magellan’s decision to reappoint Throckmorton. “With so many professionals, including the American Psychological Association and American Psychiatric Association having discredited Throckmorton’s approach it makes one question Magellan’s true agenda with this appointment. In our work with lesbian women and teens in crisis, we have seen first hand the pain and destruction that these therapies often result in.” DeBold concluded by adding that she hoped “Magellan would reconsider their decision and also make a true effort to staff their National Advisory Committee with qualified and unbiased professionals.”

1. I think I know how he changes them ...
he tells his patients they have to have sex with him at every session. Believe me, I'd be "cured" in a heartbeat if I had to.

2. About what I would expect from a major health "care"
provider. Which all goes to illustrate that in BushAmerica, you don't get what you pay for.

As always, follow the money trail.

As the late, great Bette Davis would say, "What a DUMP!"

4. Freakin' Hilarious
Considering that if this guy were to actually practice his "craft" he would be considered to be unethical, since it is unethical to use methods of therapy that aren't empirically supported, which reparative therapy is not.

7. Never mind that the DSM III took homosexuality
out of its "personality disorder" diagnoses section years ago. This guy is a quack.
