WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) --The average U.S. retail gasoline price fell 0.1 cent last week to $2.279 a gallon, the Energy Department said Monday. The price peaked at $2.32 a gallon two weeks ago. For regular gasoline, the average price fell 0.1 cent to $2.236 a gallon, while the price of premium gasoline also fell 0.1 cent to $2.426 a gallon. Prices increased in New England, the Midwest and the central Atlantic states, and fell in California, the Rockies and the Gulf Coast.
