"My husband's not as stupid as he looks" - Shriver
My husband`s not as stupid as he looks, says Mrs Schwarzenegger

Arnold Schwarzenegger's wife has a message for the women of California. Her husband is not stupid or sexist.

Mrs Schwarzenegger, better known as a television reporter, Maria Shriver, wants to change female attitudes about her husband, so she is campaigning to let women know "10 things you should know about Arnold before you go to the polls".

Number one, she says, is that he is intelligent.

"When I started going out with Arnold in 1977, people couldn't fathom our relationship. I guess they still can't. Well, one of the main attractions for me was - and still is - how smart Arnold is," she told a female audience at the California Commonwealth Club. "Arnold's capacity, ability and desire to learn are deeply embedded in his character. With all the problems California has, isn't that the kind of person we want to be governor?"

2. Yes, Maria, he's a genius.
If Arnie wouldn't have become a muscle builder and actor, his next choice of careers was a literary analyst or philosopher. Some had him slated as the next important theoretical physicist or non-Euclidean mathematician, but body building called first.

But he is sexist and can't get around that. I'm so disappointed in Maria. I expected better from her.

4. I wish stupidity was...
ALL we had to worry about with Arnie!

I posted this on another thread, but feel it is WELL worth repeating here:

Last night I was a victim, once again, of insomia. Around two a.m. I turned on the tellie and low and behold there was "Pumping Iron"! Unable to miss the chance to see Arnie at his best, I watched.

If I thought he was ambitious before, I came away from this picture now creeped out beyond belief.

One of his more memorable lines from the film that I am SHOCKED that no one has ressurected goes as follows (I wrote it down at the time):

"I grew up dreaming of dictators and other powerful people who had done things that would be remembered for hundreds of years, or thousands of years, like Jesus."

:wow:

Just what was Daddy telling him at home that had him dreaming of DICTATORS?!?! (They just glossed over Arnie's dad and said he was an Austrian "policeman".)

And after the film they showed a 25 year anniversary special that featured outtakes from the original movie. At one point Arnie is leaving a press conference of some sort and someone shouts out "So when are you going to be running for President, Arnold?" -- his reply "When Nixon is impeached."

We need to put a stake in this guy's political ambitions and QUICK. But my fear is that, like the "terminator", he will just keep coming back. Grrrr.

5. Is he as stupid as he talks? Is he as stupid as he thinks?
What does stupid mean? No one thinks he's stupid because of the way he looks. We think he's stupid because of the stupid way he presents himself and the stupid crap that comes out of his stupid boxom lips which we assume is attached to his stupid megalomanical mind.

15. Does Maria have a clue about the difference between...
... her uncle and Arnold?

Arnold is the antithesis of everything her mother, Eunice Kennedy, and her father, Sargent Shriver, stood for.

This woman is hopelessly missing the point. Love aside, Arnold's a jerk. Politically, he's a disaster. If Maria Shriver doesn't see that, she's forgotten a great deal of her own personal history.

I would expect her to defend her husband on a personal level, but to defend this unfeeling and unsympathetic and arrogant asshole on a professional level is not worthy of comment.

39. I fear that hope is misplaced.
He made such a bad impression on me in virtually every interview or debate clip I saw. He came off as boorish, mean-spirited, and dishonest.

My guess is he knows his movie career will be completely over in a couple of years and he wants to move into a political career. Obviously, since he's a celebrity he can always go the infomercial route. However, he looks and smells like someone who would sell his soul to the GOP for a chance to boss a few people around and increase the amount of cash in his bank account. He gives me the creeps.

I met a woman recently who grew up in the same village Arnold's family is from. According to her, his father was despairing about what to do with Arnold - he feared his son wasn't even smart enough to become a cop.

27. the ONLY good thing
that would come of Arnold being chosen Gubernator (i can't STAND it!) would be that we might not have to listen to Maria's gurgling voice and look at her unhealthy, anorexic face on NBC for a while (yes, we're all getting older, but she's getting thinner and more unhealthy as the years go along!).

Maria is right about one thing ... I've never understood her relationship with this steroid-pumped, misogynistic dim bulb. But many of us fall in love with a goofus at one time or another. However, I think Uncle Teddy needed to do an intervention on this one several years ago! Hoooo-eeee!

We need Dana Carvey and Kevin Nealon to do a guest shot on SNL ASAP ... we need Hanz and Franz's commentary on this whole silly business!

31. expectations
I don't understand the animosity here towards Arnold. He's to the left of most of the democratic candidates for president. :o

So, he'll campaign for Bush in 2004. Whoop-dee-doodle. Bush will STILL lose the state massively. And in all reality, I recall the night the Bush/Gore fiasco started, when suddenly late at night the anchors put up the latest figures and saw Gore was suddenly somehow 200,000 votes ahead of Bush in the national popular vote. And they were like "Ack! How did that happen?!" (this was of course the LIBERAL *cough* network CNN).

The answer was : Last minute California voters, especially in the coastal cities. Polls try to get a broad selection, and the last minute flood of votes from Los Angeles were completely unexpected.

I would be surprised if this geographic area didn't have a big impact again, and that present polls do not take it into account. I'd expect either a Davis retention or a Bustamente election. (To which Republicans will probably launch a court challenge, before skinning McClintock alive -bwahaha-)

But worst case scenario : we get a pro-choice, pro-domestic partnership, pro-environment candidate in office. The downside is what exactly?

32. Maria Shriver's theme song
When I need somethin' to help me unwind
I find a six foot baby with a one track mind
Smart guys are nowhere, they make demands
Give me a moron with talented hands
I go bar-hoppin' and they say last call
I start shoppin' for a neanderthal

The bigger they come the harder I fall
We love 'til we're done then they're out in the hall

{Refrain}
I like 'em big and stupid
I like 'em big and real dumb
I like 'em big and stupid

What kind of guy does a lot for me
Superman with a lobotomy
My fathers outa Harvard
My brothers outa Yale
But the guy I took home last night
Just got outa jail

The way he grabbed and threw me, ooh it really made me hot
But the way he growled and bit me, I hope he had his shots

The bigger they are the harder they'll work
I got a soft spot for a good lookin' jerk

{Refrain}
I met a guy, who drives a truck
He can't tell time but he sure can drive
I asked his name and he had to think
Could I have found the missing link
He's so stupid you know what he said
Well I forgot what he said, 'cause it was so stupid

The bigger they come the harder I fall
We love 'til we're done then they're out in the hall

{Refrain}

I like 'em big and real dumb
I like 'em big and

34. In all fairness to Maria...
...she didn't actually say this. Someone was being cute with the headline but she is never quoted as actually saying this in the article. It's a type of implied quote technique that has been criticized frequently on The Daily Howler website, and we should always oppose this type of "creative" journalism. It's one of the techniques journalists used to help make the 2000 election close enough to steal.

41. It's so heartwarming to see such wonderful spousal endorsements:
"My husband's not as stupid as he looks."

LOL!

No, he looks stupid -- but not nearly that stupid!

Oh, maybe he's smart, but he's not savvy. If he were, he would not have said what he's said, including on Oprah -- she wouldn't have had to put her hand over his mouth to shut him up.

But, no, I don't even buy her excuse for marrying him, much less for why he could be governor.
