15 killed in dual blasts near Baghdad mosque
BAGHDAD - Two car bombs exploded in quick succession near a Shiite Muslim mosque in Baghdad on Sunday, killing at least 15 people, a police official said.

The official said 40 people were also wounded at the Ahl al-Beit mosque. A witness said he saw many ambulances rushing to the scene, a crowded market area.

1. Imagine just one explosion at a U.S. Church...
People would be completely up in arms. Yet the Iraqis seem to suffer this on at least a weekly basis.

2. This article from newsweek explains why
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7615458/site/newsweek/

The word of their religious leader is considered the word of God and Sistani knows only a certain percentage of the Sunni community and foreign fighters are attacking them in order to get them to attack Sunnis back, which would get the majority of the Sunni community involved in the fight and cause a civil war.

3. I think the Shiites and Sadr made a big mistake abiding by Sistani. Had
Sadr kept fighting--even if he had died in that Najaf mosque--the Americans miht be leaving about now. Also, I believe the Sunnis will not stop until they elicit a civil war. I'm just wondering at what price will the American people start bitching more seriously.

10. And that is a real pity.
Ending the American at all costs is not a good option; if we pressure * to get his butt out with the fairly immediate consequence that there's bloodthirsty dictator imposing his pet's fatwas on everybody, the moral filth will splatter nicely.

Such pressure is only justified if it's fairly unequivocal to the majority of Americans, or at least the majority of dems, that this will be the end result even if we stay for 5 years. We're not there yet.

5. Four Car Bombings in Iraq Leave 21 Dead
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Insurgents exploded two car bombs in a Baghdad market and two more in Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit on Sunday, killing a total of 21 Iraqis and wounding 73 in one of the bloodiest days since Iraq's historic elections.

The anti-coalition forces have grown more emboldened in the past week, bringing down a civilian helicopter carrying 11 people Thursday and striking with bomb attacks across Iraq Saturday, killing at least 16 people, including an American soldier. The violence — largely targeting Iraqi police and security forces — has played out as the National Assembly struggles to assemble a government.

Earlier Sunday, the U.S. military said it arrested four more suspects in Thursday's downing of a civilian helicopter north of Baghdad, bringing the number apprehended so far to 10. All 11 helicopter passengers and crew were killed, including one shot by insurgents.

The Baghdad bombs killed 15 people and wounded 40. The first exploded in front of an ice cream shop in the western al-Shoulah district, police Maj. Mousa Abdul Karim said. As people rushed to assist the wounded, a second bomb detonated within a few minutes, he said.
