Care facilities get less review (protection for children, elderly is cut)
Licensing agency has cut inspections that protect children and the elderly.

The state is not conducting enough inspections of foster homes, child care centers and facilities for the elderly to meet its own legal standards, which became the lowest in the nation when lawmakers relaxed them during budget cuts two years ago.

The number of citations issued at the care institutions also has dropped, alarming advocates who believe the state has put at risk about 1.4 million vulnerable Californians whom the facilities serve.
...
The state in 2003 switched from inspecting care facilities once every year or two to only once every five years...
Most other states require inspections of facilities every one or two years.
...
The numbers are estimates because, even though state law requires the Department of Social Services to adhere to a strict inspection rate, state officials said they failed to keep track of whether they were doing enough facility visits last year.

3. And anything related to "public good"
From libraries and schools to running water lines out to rural residents. If money can't be made by the people in power, it doesn't happen.

2. So what? Kids can't vote
we need to save every penny to spend on the war in Iraq. Think of it this way, the more messed up these kids are, the easier it will be to convince them to join the military and the more ruthless killers they will be.

Well, that was dark and cynical.

5. Well, yeah.
That should be about, what, $5 to $10 a year savings per taxpayer? And if they give it back to the taxpayer, that should approximately an extra 4 to 6 gallons of gas per year?

6. What?
You mean they had people that actually checked on these things. You could have fooled me.
This administration could care less about the elderly and children. Ohhhh, so long as you don't have an abortion. Starve them later, but don't have an abortion.
