Rice Accused of Suppressing Terror Info
Rice Accused of Suppressing Terror Info
By BARRY SCHWEID, AP Diplomatic Writer

Friday, April 22, 2005

(04-22) 09:52 PDT WASHINGTON, (AP) --

A senior House Democrat who has been sharply critical of State Department reporting on terrorism is accusing Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice of denying Congress and the public important information about the number of incidents.

"There appears to be a pattern in the administration's approach to terrorism data: favorable facts are revealed while unfavorable facts are suppressed," Rep. Henry A. Waxman of California said in a letter to the department's acting inspector general, Cameron R. Hume.

Waxman said that Rice's predecessor, Colin Powell, had consulted Congress and never sought to withhold data from the public.

The question is "whether political considerations played a role in Secretary Rice's decision."

1. "Colin Powell, had consulted Congress and never sought to withhold data"
love ya, Henry - but lets not go THAT far in praising Powell.

4. I dislike Powell as much as the next commie/pinko does,
but I like this tactic. Why not make as many ill-comparisons between a "real" SoS and this hopped-up hand-job of a SoS as we can? Rub their noses in the fact that a "statesman" like Powell couldn't stand being associated with the Emperor, whereas Bush's common-law wife, Condie, can't think herself out of a torn condom. And remember, I can't stand Colin "The Liar" Powell.

2. Well there's ANOTHER one to add to the pile - she's also leaning
on top State Department people not to give Congress anything that might be bad for bolton's nomination.

Can we say OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE?

Waxman is my congressman, I'm delighted to say, and I just called him about this. I got a much more receptive response than yesterday when I called several senators about this (except for Boxer's office). They all seem very ready to hedge their bets and their language. I'd like to see the accusations come out and then watch whatever results come of them. The Bad Guys on the other side would do NO LESS to us. Taste of their own medicine. Besides, for all I know, this IS obstruction of justice. And not just an isolated incident. It appears to be a pattern - modus operendi.

3. Why "accused of"
Should'nt it be "confronted about", "revealed as", "scolded over" - "accused of" makes it sound as though it's possible she did not suppress the info - i.e. just another Demo being "partisan".

9. Waxman Rocks!
Wish I had a representative in any branch of Congress and would love for it to be Waxman.

Still think it should have been "Obstruction of Justice" though.
