WP: Markets Await Inflation Data
Markets Await Inflation Data

By Jerry Knight
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, April 18, 2005; 4:56 PM

Stock traders took a break today to debate whether the market is half full or half empty.

The positive spin on today's seemingly insignificant move was that it broke the pattern of triple-digit losses that devastated Wall Street last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The counter-argument was that today the market failed to produce the big bounce that many traders were looking for after last week's painful losses.

Equally likely, the market may simply be waiting for some significant development that will give traders badly needed help in deciding whether to buy or sell.

1. The last time the markets awaited the PPI data
with such anticipation, the government withheld issuing the PPI data for two months saying the data gathering was undergoing a restructuring.

Wonder if they will release the PPI tomorrow as scheduled.

3. I would think the market would freak if they did that.
It would seem clear that they are trying to hide something or need more time to cook the books.

However, you can never put anything past this secretive crowd.

If what the Government is doing (or supposed to do) doesn't work to their advantage, just change the rules.

Isn't that the new policy?

to show people what would happen if they held stocks instead of a planned social security payment. They could get wiped out in just one week.
