Sex offenders of all kinds are not usually cured, unless they are treated for their issues. That could be anger, addictions, mental illness, etc. What we have to do is start taking these offenders seriously, and punish them, and force them to get treatment.

Then.. if we could just dump our culture of sex + violence+ ENTERTAINMENT, then we'd be halfway there.

The "partially clad" part sure sounds sexual...unless he stripped her in order to make an accidental strangulation (?) LOOK like a sexual assault so that HE, being a registered sex offender who'd dated the victim's mother, wouldn't be suspected!

Prison itself is NO deterrant for these creeps! In prison they get 3 meals a day--usually prepared for them, a clean bed, their day is planned for them. they don't have to pay taxes, free medical and dental care, an education if they want it, excercise equipment (a gym), no real responsibilities, etc. etc.--what a life!!!! They don't have any moral or civil standards so they care little about anything else!!!
There is only one thing that may stop a sex offender for real--castration--the ol' fashion way. (Not chemical) Just make them into eunochs after the first sexual assault. THAT WOULD STOP THEM! Its the only thing they care about. It's 100% effective. It's inexpensive. It's less cruel than the death penalty. And many potential offenders would think twice!
And I don't want to hear anything about the poor men losing their manhood! Many ladies have hysterectomies for many reasons and they are still considered people--without being victims!
Yet how many women are sexually or violently assaulted every day! And look at third world countries!

It is horrible. No parent should outlive their child (at least that is what my Mom says). I just wonder why did the church members feel it necessary to hand out Bibles door-to-door after this event? Why not a collection for the family or to start a neighborhood watch or even a child registration program?

It's time to get really tough with sex offenders. I'm sick of seeing these people re-offending again and again.

Here in Washington State, for some stupid-ass reason, sex offenders are allowed to get out of prison even if they've refused any type of treatment. Gee.. I guess you get out faster if you do. It should be MANDATORY. I frankly believe that you probably cant' cure most men who have sex and violence fantasies and have acted on them. Like a dog that has killed something... I think the treatment is valuable ONLY if they are forever monitored.

RIP to the poor girl. Your life was too short, and too hard. It shouldn't be that way.

Was it also assumed that she would go a friend's house and spend the night without her mother's knowledge or consent? Why didn't anyone call the friend to make sure?

Mother went out for the weekend, left the 13 year old and the 17 year old alone, the 17 year old went out and stayed out for a while. When he left, Sarah was at home, and asked him to get something to eat. When he came home, Sarah was gone. The 17 year old found a beer bottle. Later on mother's ex-boyfriend or boyfriend showed up, asked for the mother and took the beer bottle with him. But the 17 year old must have thought nothing of it, as he didn't call the police, and didn't notify anyone. Mother showed up back home on Sunday, didn't call the police then either.
She only called the police on Monday, apparently after pastor's wife called Sarah's school and found out Sarah wasn't in school.
