Venezuela: Citizen Reserves to Defend Against 'External Aggression'

CARACAS - Venezuela has begun to train popular defense units to help defend the country in the event of war, although not all of the volunteers will receive weapons training.

"Not all of the members of the reserves will be armed," said General Melvin López, secretary of the National Defense Council. "Each person will play their own role: doctors, nurses, journalists. This is a question of knowing who to contact in case of danger, but not everyone would actually carry a rifle."

The aim is to organize the population to respond in the event of "external aggression," and for potential aggressor states to be aware, prior to staging an attack, that "we have trained reserves, ready to fulfill their duty. The idea is to have a dissuasive effect," López added.

Chavez didn't liberate anything, he just offered a leadership, channelling, in time and place when the population had allready decided. Leaders are tools of popular will, not liberators. You was allways free, no matter what they wan't you to believe! :)

Of course, Venezuala is concerned about US military retaliation for assertion of its independence from US domination. That is a clear and convincing threat.

The more subtle threat being waged by the present US administration is an economic control over all humanity.

I just cannot understand the complete hearlessness and total power-mania mindset of this radical group controlling the resources and destiny of this country,...and the world.

And the rest of us, the ones who have no wish to wage war, or take over other countries, are being lumped in with them. I pray that the rest of the world realizes that some of us are ashamed of our country under this heartless, corrupt administration.

I have never been so afraid in my life, of what is in store for the future of our country. It never ceases to amaze me how much damage could be done in the span of a little over four years, or that our Democratic congressmen would be so spineless, and allow so much to happen without even a whimper of protest.
