Two U.S. Marines killed in Iraq (One soldier as well 1551)
http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/04/15/iraq.main/index.html

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Two U.S. Marines and a U.S. solder were killed in fighting in western Iraq, and insurgents attacked two military convoys in Baghdad, authorities said Friday.

<snip>

The deaths bring the number of U.S. troops killed since the U.S.-led coalition invaded Iraq to 1,551.

In Baghdad, insurgents attacked two military convoys -- one American, the other Iraqi -- on Friday, killing at least one person and wounding eight others, Iraqi emergency police said.

A roadside bomb killed one civilian and wounded three others near an Iraqi army convoy in eastern Baghdad's Talbiya district, police said.

1. I've been gone for three weeks. That 1551 seems impossibly low
I thought we had passed 1510 three weeks ago.

4. Yes it has gone down
That's because the insurgents have been concentrating on the Iraqi security forces for the last few weeks.

6. It is very difficult to follow what is actually going on there
If I were an Iraqi, regardless of stripe,
I would be more concerned about forcing the US out.
I don't understand why they choose to fight each other.

23. Bunker mentality..building bastions....
I read another article which says 'mini' green zones are springing up all over Baghdad. Turning into 15th century Italy! Read up on the DeMedicis to learn about 'fortress'Florence, and how the city was built into several armed camps complete with secret passageways, armed escorts and endless intrigue! Visit Castello Angelo in Rome and see how the pope had to walk down a fortified path to get to the Vatican! Its not just Iraq, its happening here! Which political leader in the US dares step out without an armored limosine, body guards and police escort. We are turning midevel at a rapid rate! Watch the Boy King hide out at his Crawfish fortress because he's terrified of public places, and knows the white house is 'the next ground zero'! The 'Mayberry Machiavellis' have taken a page right out of the book. As for the soldiers in Iraq, yes, fewer casualties because defense is the safer position. But...summer is fast approaching and the heat and dust will takes its toll!

21. I agree. Something is amiss.
What about the bombing attack on Abu Ghraib prison 2 weeks ago. Over 40 injured US troops, and NOT A SINGLE casualty. Really?

That seems pretty amazing.

I think they've not giving us the figures.

28. As long as they've got tubes keepin' them alive,...they aren't a
casualty. If they die sometime later from their "disabilities", they're not counted as a casualty. It's amazing what is NOT counted as a casualty of war,...especially when the war-mongering power-grabbers decidedly IMPOSE the illusion which keeps their power afloat.

Think about it.

12. There has been a subtle shift with the "journalists" on this point
Edited on Fri Apr-15-05 12:09 PM by The_Casual_Observer
Notice how they are increasingly saying that they didn't believe the WMD stuff, but they truly were in favor of the invasion on the basis of the other " major issue" of "bringing democracy and freedom" to Iraq. The fact that the war in Iraq would be considered totally illegal by any standard based on the "freedom" justification now seems forgotten, for now at least.

16. Moral Republicans and Whore Media! The "Coalition" is everything
Edited on Fri Apr-15-05 12:08 PM by dArKeR
when you listen to aWol and the Whore NeoNaziCons! The "Coalition" is proof how moral the aWol Adm. is to invade Iraq. But when it comes time to honor the "Coalition" with all that they've given, their young children's death blood, you don't hear anything about the number of their dead.

God bless the American Republican Christians!

14. Update: security incidents kill six people including four Americans
http://www.kuna.net.kw/Home/Story.aspx?Language=en&DSNO=723607

In the latest report, the Multi-National Forces said in a statement that a US Marine was killed in a firefight with armed insurgents in Al-Anbar, in the western territory of Iraq. The Marine died with shrapnel of a mortar shell, it said.

Eearlier today, Iraqi police said three US soldiers where killed and two others were wounded in a car bomb blast in the Iraqi capital.

The explosion that took place Friday morning at Al-Ameerat crossroad in Al-Mansour district, was executed by a suicide bomber driving a booby-trapped Opel and targeted a US convoy that was passing by, police said.

The police added that the explosion knocked out a US Humvee vehicle. They confirmed the injury of five Iraqis, who received treatment in Al-Yarmouk hospital. US forces cordoned off the blood-drenched scene of the blast

29. Something to think about......
It's been said that the ONLY people that the government is afraid of are the AMERICANS. Not foreigers, not Chavez, not Al-Sistani. Americans.

I also read that during the VietNam war, military people realized that at a certain number of casualties, AMERICANS will reach their limit of tolerance.

I've read that the American public is willing to tolerate a certain number of deaths. Up to a point. If that threshold is passed, then they can expect brawling, demonstrations, widespread dissent and general chaos.

They want to avoid this. They're not sure where the number is. In vietnam, that number was 55,000 so we have a ways to go. But we're not sure where the breaking point is.

The Pentagon wants to avoid this at all costs. That's why they keep the caskets hidden, the injured out of the light of day.

32. I agree with you...
they are indeed hiding a lot of deaths. I also misread this update and it probably should have had a thread of its own. It looks like these three soldiers dead are in addition to the three posted in the OP. Six in one day? That should be all over the news. :(

27. *choke* I can hardly bring myself to read these reports anymore.
Especially knowing that, for every dead soldier, there are: ten who are forever physically disabled; twenty who are forever psychologically disabled; and thirty who are forever distressed by their experience.

On top of that, for every dead soldier, there are: thirty or more innocents killed; fifty or more innocents permanently physically disabled; fifty or more innocents starving or suffering; one hundred or more innocents psychologically impacted.

A horror delivered by rich, power-mongering, old white men. :grr:
