Tom Delay and Ted Nugent to Appear at NRA Convention
HOUSTON (AP) -- The National Rifle Association is holding its annual convention this weekend in Houston.

The event is expected to draw about 60,000 people including Republican House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who will be the convention's keynote speaker tomorrow.

There's a session tomorrow called "God, Guns and Rock-n-Roll," featuring rock star Ted Nugent.

The NRA's executive vice president says the location for the convention is a good one because, "It's the heartland of the country." He says, "They love us."

1. We can take the gun issue back from these assholes.
I'm convinced of it. There's a middle ground to be found between banning everything and letting everyone have them.

And banning "assault weapons" ain't it, by the way.

and i need my assault crossbow. And my assault knife and a bigger penis. whoops. I meant, I need bigger guns. Been hunting for over 30 years and never "needed" an assault rifle. And don't criticize me for hunting it is a way to supplement food for my family.

55. Ted Nugent is very popular among the NRA rank and file
I think his politics -- particularly on guns -- are completely wacky, but he's very articulate and personable, with just the right touch of gonzo rocker edge.

That, and he's an enormously underrated musician.

His 2002 appearance on Crossfire - snacking on venison with fellow hunter Paul Begala - remains among that show's absolutely finest segments (as does Frank Zappa's amazing smackdown of a right-winger from the show's early days.

My point? Don't broadly stereotype based on geography.

14. Boy, that sums up "gun rights" in a nutshell, doesn't it?
...emphasis on "nut"

Will there ever be a better time to point to the NRA and start publicly calling for gun control?

By the way, here's a reminder of the festivities at last year's NRA klavern...

"PITTSBURGH -- A man whose son was killed in the Columbine High School shootings literally walked in his child's shoes to the National Rifle Association convention, where he hoped Vice President Dick Cheney would address the federal assault weapons ban set to expire in September.
Tom Mauser, whose son Daniel was killed with an assault weapon in the Littleton, Colo., killings five years ago Tuesday, said continuing the ban is common sense.
Assault weapons "are the weapons of gangs, drug lords and sick people," Mauser said before his three-block march to the convention, which runs through Sunday. "It is a weapon of war and we don't want this war on our streets."
Mauser entered the convention hall where the NRA was meeting, but was turned away by a security guard as several conventioneers applauded. A couple of conventioneers yelled "Get a life" and "Vote for Bush." "

28. Nugent admitted to child molesting and his daughters confirmed this
on a TV show called, "Daughters of Rockers" or something like that. I personally saw this show. He was talking about how he'd pick up this very very young girls and bring them home and have sex with them. His daughters, on camera, confirmed.

Now why is Michael Jackson on trial but no investigation to what Nugent has done? Where these girls Nugent molested 13 or 11 or 14? What type of sexual acts did he have these children perform?

This is absolute proof the media and Justice is completely controlled by the Repblican Power Elite.

If MJ was the person in "Daughters of Rockers", MJ would be found guilty immediately because he admits to sexual acts with children and his family members concur.

Imagine if Ted Kennedy was at apperances with Michael Jackson after on TV MJ addmitted to having sex with children? Why aren't the media making a story about "Delay with admitted child molester Nugent?"

49. Here's a link for his draft-dodging:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Nugent

"Nugent avoided the draft during the Vietnam War. In an interview for the Detroit Free Press July 15, 1990, Nugent described how he avoided the draft: He claims that 30 days before his Draft Board Physical, he stopped all forms of personal hygiene. The last ten days he ingested nothing but junk food and Pepsi, and a week before his physical he stopped using the bathroom altogether, virtually living inside pants caked with excrement and stained by his urine. That spectacle won Nugent a deferment, he says. His quote: “ but if I would have gone over there, I’d have been killed, or I’d have killed, , or I’d have killed all the Hippies in the foxholes… I would have killed everybody.”

Typical freeper coward. Talk like tough guys but truly cowardly fucks.

I read an NRA expose article in "Mother Jones" circa 1998. Nugent was quoted as saying "Blacks are lucky to be in America so they won't have to wear those bones in their noses".

60. Probably right.
I don't doubt that he did it. I just have a hard time believing that if you admit to child molestation on TV you will not be prosecuted. I don't care who you are. This is a juicy subject that would sell news papers and air time. Not to the extent that Jacko does, but still it is CHILD MOLESTATION. If he did it, he should rot in prison. Period.

Couldn't you mail a copy of the video to whatever DA has jurisdiction and demand an investigation. Come on, there must be a progressive DA somewhere in this country that could make a name for themselves on this. IF there is a tape, I doubt that there is not someone who would be willing to prosecute.

Edited on Fri Apr-15-05 12:59 PM by Mike Daniels
I would think there's got to be someone slightly more relevant to today's music culture that they could book as a speaker.

It's seems that most contemporary country artists lean towards the right and I figure the odds favor someone in that group owning some sort of firearm.

It'd be interesting to know if the NRA approached other people and were told "no".
