Chavez Frias rejects sectarianism and warns that CIA plans to stop him winning in 2006
Inaugurating the III Meeting of Solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias has turned his attention to problems inside the government alliance caused by internal elections. Calling on supporters to stop internal disputes over candidates to municipal and parish councils, Chavez Frias insists that unity is his rallying cry.
What must guide the Bolivarian Movement, the President insists, is unity above differences ... "the unity of the People with diverse revolutionary currents ... dogmatism, sectarianism and infantilism are the enemies that must be fought on a daily basis." The President says he rejects internal disputes for candidacies and leaderships because what is in question is not a quota of posts ... "it's not about that at all ... these are proof, as Bolivar said of the old chains ... they are proof that the spirit and heritage of Accion Democratica (AD) and the Fourth Republic is still alive."
Pleading, the President calls on supporters to show leadership and place themselves at the front of the battle line for People's rights.
The President used the occasion, which was broadcast on a national TV link up, to attack the US government stating that the CIA is drawing up a plan to stop him from being elected in 2006. US Joint Chief of Staff, General Myers' visit last week to Colombia is part of the plan, Chavez Frias quips, and his declaration that the USA had no plans to invade Venezuela is more dangerous that if he had said the opposite.
Referring to a statement attributed to Colombian President Alvaro Uribe during a visit to Japan regarding Venezuela, Chavez Frias admits that his government has asked Bogota for an explanation. The Colombian government has denied that Uribe ever made the statement and it has been learned that the Venezuelan government says its is satisfied with the Colombia's clarification.
