Sponsorship Deal Reached for RFK

WASHINGTON - D.C. Mayor Tony Williams says the city has reached a sponsorship deal for RFK Stadium and it includes the Armed Forces.

The official name will be announced some time Thursday, but WTOP Radio has learned that the field at RFK will be called Armed Forces Field at RFK.

Williams says the deal will bring the same level of revenue to the city as the original deal with the National Guard.

snip ... then this little gem .....

Sources tell WTOP Radio the deal includes $6 million invested by the military for recruitment kiosks and other signage within the stadium, but does not constitute buying the naming rights outright.

Keep in mind ... this long disused stadium was originally called Robert F. Kennedy Stadium, and colloquially as "RFK".

What's next? Renaming the game "BushistaBall"

Of course, his royal highness and serene majesty, Great Leader Chimpus Khan will be on hand to throw out the first ball. The radio story also said that Fat Timmy Russert introduced the players at the team's booster (or some such) luncheon earlier today.

Message to Bobby Kennedy .... "move over, bud ... we need your spot"

*******
This is just one more insult. Y'ever look up the word insult? It is so perfect for what the Bushistas are doing to our country. This from dictionarydotcom:

1. I am so thankful that I no longer
live on the Hill - such a disgrace

and then across the way is the Congressional Cemetery, rotting away, sinking into the ground, putrid mess where all the old famous senators are buried and Tip O'Neil for instance, Congress does not allow ONE Friggin red cent for upkeep

the dog owners of Capitol Hill pay a fee to upkeep the cemetery so they can walk their dogs there

2. They are not renaming the stadium
It is only the field...and only for Nationals games...and I don't really see a problem with the National Guard sponsoring it.

5. Oh, the irony
the avatar atached to the above post belongs to the team that first abandoned D.C. in 1961.

7. Hey, if DC had supported them they wouldn't have left
But, I am very supportive of the new DC team...I think they can finally support one the way they couldn't before.

However, they will never replace my beloved Twins!!!

4. Someone on C-Span this AM called in & said
the name of the team should be "The Washington Lobbyists."

I thought that was quite appropriate.

6. Why not "Army Reserves Field at RFK Stadium"? (sarcasm)
'cause, fast start notwithstanding, they're basically fielding a team of 25 reserves :-)
