2.4 Million more without Health Insurance
Drudge leak, up in red.

Number of people without health insurance shot up last year by 2.4 million, largest increase in a decade, raising the total to 43.6 million, as health costs soared and many workers lost coverage provided by employers, Census Bureau will report on Tuesday... Developing...

Whistle ass is having a bad week. Census Bureau just released the crappy poverty figures last week. This is breaking news.

1. Does this mean....
about one out of four U.S. citizens have no health insurance??? Or are some children covered by their parents, lowering the numbers?
Unbelievable. But a few more years with neoliberals like Schröder and Blair in Europe and we will compete!
Good health from Germany,
Dirk

2. Not quite that bad yet
This is about 15%... highest jump in a decade though. It's getting worse. The Iraq war costs would have paid for health insurance for everybody.

5. Oops, I can't count till 10 and I have health insurance...
stupid old Europe. I tried to count all of you and fell into sleep after reaching about 180 millions. I admit everything, it must be about 286 million US citizens.
So Europe just needs 1 more year of neoliberal idiotism to compete!
We try,
Dirk

18. Don't do this to me....
first I reveal that I can't count. Then I start a war against a continent and hurt you! I have to see a doctor pretty soon (without paying) as long as it works!
Sorry old Europe!

8. At least you're not alone!
I don't say that to be snide, but I can relate because my husband lost his job over 18 months ago and we have no health insurance either. We were able to get the kids on the CHPs program through the state, but should we get sick we are out of luck. Unfortunately, my husband has asthma and glaucoma and no one will insure him. Fortunately his doctor gives him samples of all the meds that he needs so that he doesn't have to pay for his prescriptions. I hope that things will turn around soon in the country and we'll get our priorities straight. $87 billion sounds like it could provide a lot of health insurance for Americans that need it.

9. I Hope You Are Right
However, I must admit that my patience is wearing very thin at this point.

And my thin patience is aimed at both the neo-con cretans and the progressives and liberals that just can't seem to get it together.

I have attended so many organizing meetings in the last year that I have all but given up on the progressive crowd and its ability to fight out of a wet paper bag.

No flames please; this is what I have personally observed and experienced.

Time to put differences aside and ORGANIZE!

It's easy to criticize when you haven't lived it. I know, from experience, the agony of not having something that is vital to life and worrying every day if something will go wrong that could potentially take us away from our children. When you're in that situation you don't want people playing politics.

I wish you well and I hope that you will continue to channel your anger and frustration into areas that will make a difference for all of us.

15. Tommy Thompson
I love they part where Tommy Thompson says that we "need to do more" to provide insurance to all Americans.

I'm working like hell to defeat Bush in 2004. Does that count?

What he has done to the average person in the US is criminal. what he has done to the average Iraqi is more than criminal it approaches genocide.

20. Which is also bad for the people that still have it
Medical groups will raise their rates to make ends meet and pay the rent, drug companies will raise their prices to keep the profits up and hospitals emergency rooms will be more difficult because of people waiting till things get acute before the see a doctor.

Dennis is the one candidate with a plan that will cover everyone and guarantee quality medical care.

22. Well, what are "Harry and Louise" saying about that?
I remember those sick-@$$ adds ranting about the Clinton administration attempt to enact some health care reforms and guess what...even though it was a start, it was squelched.

And a lotta good Bush and his cronies have done in contrast...this is despicable treatment of our citizens...

Everything this administration has done has been despicable. In fact, they do so many despicable things it is impossible to keep up with it all.
