CentCom: MARINE DIES IN FALLUJAH MISHAP (#1545)

CAMP FALLUJAH, Iraq – A Marine assigned to Regimental Combat Team 8, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, was killed April 6 as the result of a motor vehicle accident which occurred during combat operations here.

Regimental Combat Team 8 is deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

....not to devolve into semantics but the Three Stooges on a window washing scaffold is a mishap.The young soldier was a COMBAT CASUALTY!!

It lists the sodier as "hostile - vehicle accident."

What does that mean? Vehicle accidents are almost always labelled "non-hostile." The same ambiguity is present in the centcom release.

If the vehicle was under fire and went out of control and crashed, that would probably be considered a hostile action, even if the occupant didn't receive gunshot wounds.

What I dislike about this is the term "mishap". You use that when someone trips on the stairs or falls skiing. To apply it to the death of a soldier trivializes it.

4. The Armed Froces must have the worst equipment and training in the world.

It seems that the equipment is constantly malfunctioning and causing casultiies and the driver ed training they receive must be woefully inadequate. Give me a fuckin' break. These poor folks are being killed as a result of combat related incidences.
