Nursing home workers delay strike deadline (CT)
HARTFORD - Leaders of the state's largest health care union have decided to push back strike deadlines at 29 state nursing homes until May.

In a letter to Gov. M. Jodi Rell and legislative leaders delivered Thursday, New England Health Care Employees Union District 1199 President Jerome Brown said that would be the last postponement of a strike.

"Absent agreements on contracts, there will be no further postponements," Brown wrote. "We must set deadlines. Otherwise, the employers we deal with will not take our issues seriously."

The strike deadlines were pushed back to May 3 for some homes, and May 10 for others after a union vote Wednesday night, the union said. <snip>
