By Steve Holland
ROME (Reuters) - The White House reaffirmed its regrets over the death of an Italian secret service agent shot by U.S. forces in Iraq, as President Bush held talks with Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi on Thursday.

Bush, in Rome to attend Friday's funeral of Pope John Paul, met Ciampi for more than half an hour and the White House said they discussed developments in the Middle East, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Spokesman Scott McClellan said the subject of the death of the Italian agent, Nicola Calipari, did not come up in the meeting but could be discussed with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who will dine with Bush on Thursday night.

"We regret that the incident took place," McClellan told reporters.

"We've previously expressed our regret over the incident. It is being jointly investigated by Italian and American authorities and there will be more to say on it once that investigation is complete," he said.

8. Suborning witnesses in the forthcoming "God's Banker" trial
in Rome.

Resumption of proceedings imminent: Licio Gelli, Flavio Carboni and others all in the slammer awaiting murder charges for assassination of Roberto Calvi, ex-CEO of Banco Ambrosiano - who bankrupted the Vatican Bank.

Poppy gave the Vatican Bank's CEO Cardinal Marcinkus immunity from prosecution....

11. Notice how they only "regret"
what happened, because BeelzeBush is in Italy. Otherwise, it's a (yawn) dead subject. Who cares? Certainly not Washington.

They're busy sitting on the story, in the hopes that it will go away.
