American Airlines Announces Massive Layoffs At Overhaul Base (525 jobs)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- American Airlines announced another round of layoffs at the overhaul base at Kansas City International Airport.

KMBC's Micheal Mahoney reported Wednesday that the layoffs will affect nearly one-third of the workforce.

As a result of the phasing out of the MD-80 aircraft, American Airlines sent out a letter informing 525 of the 1,400 workers at KCI that they're being laid off this summer.

The workforce is being dropped almost to the minimum required by a recently signed lease.

"Well, our agreement calls for around 700 workers at the minimum. We'll have about 900 left now; that's above the skeleton crew number," said Bill Skaggs, with the City Aviation Committee.

their jobs. OKC is a two-horse town. GM and Tinker Air Force Base.
