TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Attorney General Charlie Crist sued three drug companies Wednesday alleging they overcharged Medicaid by a combined $25 million over the last 11 years.
In some cases, the companies charged the health care program for the poor and elderly many times more than what it was charging pharmacies for the same drug, Crist said.
"They lied, they cheated and they stole from the taxpayers of Florida," Crist said in announcing the suit filed against Sandoz, Inc.; Ivax Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; and Purepac Pharmaceutical Co.. "We're talking about people who have ripped off the system."
For instance, Purepac charged Medicaid $82.90 for a drug called isosorbide while charging drug stores $10.06 for the same drug, Crist said.
