Crosby-Ironton Teacher Strike is Over (MN)
<snip> The key sticking point, retiree health benefits, was settled when the two sides agreed to set up a trust account to pay out as care is needed. New teachers won't be eligible for the benefit, and the district's younger teachers will see a more limited benefit than older teachers.

The old contract had paid 100 percent of family coverage needs for nine years following a teacher's retirement.

In the new contracts, which run through 2007, teachers did get a bump in the maximum contribution the district will make toward family health insurance, to $8,200 annually from $7,560. <snip>

Whether the contract changes will make the school less attractive to new teachers remains to be seen. <snip>
