China arrests 10,000 in gambling crackdown

CHINA’S government has arrested more than 10,000 people in a massive nationwide campaign against gambling, state media reported today.

A focal point of the crackdown appears to be free-wheeling Jiangsu province on the eastern seaboard, where 7,256 offenders have been punished, the Xinhua news agency said.

In Fujian province, further down the east coast, 2,178 gamblers have been detained, according to the agency.

In northeastern Jilin province, more than 400 gambling dens disguised as recreation centres for the elderly have been closed down, Xinhua reported.

2. I understand illegal drug use in China

is becoming a major problem also and a major crackdown is on the way.
Penalties are severe, pubic execution for manufacturing and life in prison for sales. China had a major drug cleanup operation in the '50s where the policy was quit now or be killed, thousands of people were executed.

I know that the "dirty little secret" of Japan, one they work hard to hide, is real problems with Amphetamine and (some) Cocaine abuse.
