Massive power cut hits Italy
A series of massive power cuts has left most of Italy in darkness.

The BBC's David Willey in Rome says that most of the country - from Turin in the north to the southern island of Sicily - is without electricity, after the power went off about 0400 (0200GMT).

The national grid authority blamed the blackout on a malfunction of supply lines from abroad, according to the Ansa news agency.

The grid failure appears to be similiar to the problems that caused blackouts in the northeastern United States and London last month.

A meeting of the national civil protection authorities is scheduled for 0700 (0500GMT) to discuss what our correspondent says is an unprecedented situation in the country.

There are 110 trains reported to be at a standstill across the country.

1. Am I being too suspicious here....
But doesn't this sound awfully coincidental? US...Briton...Italy all supporters of Iraq war....all with big power outages. Are they SURE its not related?

10. But Italian People ..
Didn't support the war, same with the Brits, and some Americans. Maybe we're being reminded of what we need the oil for .. ie, PsyOps to counter anti-war people.

September 23, when about 3 million people in Sweden and Denmark had no power?

20. Perhaps *someone* is testing.
testing the bigger effect of a cascading power failure in preparation for actually destroying some of the nodes.

But what to be gained from it?

All we can do is speculate but something is going wrong, perhaps just capitalism I suppose.

This is intentional and no one in THIS government..regardless of party affiliation....is talking. Once again...not a peep, nor any real investigations. This is becoming a pattern.

Apparently the line linking France and Italy was severed - most likely by a storm. Italy and France are playing the blame-game at the moment.

9. This years shark attack stories,
Mysterious Blackouts, Italy has the least reliable power system in the NATO Block. Rolling blackouts of residential communities are a regular occurance in southern Italy.

13. I dunno...
This really doesn't look like coincidence to me, though. They say a storm severed the line? I bet it was that da*n Isabel!

Seriously though...they have storms all the time. This was a massive outage again. I am very suspicious.

15. 'see what we can do' - says the bloody hands bushgang

guess Spain will be next. since Spain's leaders went with the gang.

I don't think this is the terrorists. I think the gang is doing more fear factor work.

the citizens in these countries are against the gang. Their leaders are for the gang: thus the gang needs to put fear of terrorists into the citizens.

19. No one here
in my town believes this either. Nor do we go for the bird suicide story. Electricity came back around 6:30PM. So, it was about a 13 hour blackout here in Sicily. Not a bad day, but this is a little willage. We still had the annual bike race. People live outside in this weather so nothing much was different. Contrary to a post on this subject we have not experienced power outages this year. In fact in the last five years outages rarely have occured. Be interesting to see what coverup this will create.
