Briton jailed over US poison threat

A Briton who admitted trying to extort $180,000 (£96,000) from a US supermarket chain by threatening to put poisoned baby food on store shelves has been sentenced to five years in federal prison.

David Ian Dickinson, 43, of Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty last year.

He said he was under "extreme duress" when he made the threat to Ralph's supermarket chain in Los Angeles a year ago.

He said he wanted money to pay for his ailing five-month-old son's college education.

2. I thought this was a belated April Fool's

joke with this line; "He said he wanted money to pay for his ailing five-month-old son's college education." That makes no sense at all.
