Taliban kill three truckers near Afghan border

SPIN BOLDAK, Afghanistan, April 2 (Reuters) - Taliban fighters killed three truck drivers taking military jeeps to U.S. forces in southern Afghanistan in the latest in a spate of militant attacks, officials said on Saturday.

The ambush, on Friday night, took place near the Afghan border town of Spin Boldak, the main crossing point from Pakistan to the Afghan city of Kandahar.

"Taliban attacked the trucks and killed the drivers. Two of them were Afghan and the third one was Pakistani," said Sayed Fazel Din Agha, district governor of Spin Boldak.

"The trucks were carrying American jeeps from Pakistan to Kandahar air base. The jeeps were damaged in the attack," he said, referring to the main U.S. base in southern Afghanistan.
