COLUMBIA, S.C. - Job losses in manufacturing helped push South Carolina's unemployment rate to 7.1 percent in February, the Employment Security Commission reported Thursday.

The rate was up from 7 percent in January, and the change gave the state the third-highest jobless rate in the country behind Alaska and Michigan. Nationwide, the unemployment rate increased to 5.4 percent in February from 5.2 percent a month earlier.

Marion County continued to have the highest unemployment rate at 15.5 percent, compared with 15.3 percent in January. Williamsburg (13.9 percent), Marlboro (13.2 percent), McCormick (13.1 percent) and Union (13.1 percent) counties rounded out the five highest rates.

2. Please!
Nobody knows how many people voted for Bush even in this scarlet red state. Election fraud was present in every corner of this country

that said--yes, SC, mostly--well--challanged by words with more than one syllable

3. Good. They deserve it.
With all apologies to those in SC who voted against Bush, I have to say, Hey, at least they beat them gays, huh?

Schools shouldn't "hire homosexuals and single women." -- SC senator Jim Demint. They elected him for that. Well, they're nuts down there. I'm glad their unemployment is high as hell. HAHA, you fucking morons!

But be careful. Another DUer basically called me a bigot for describing these people as rubes and Crackers. Right. OK, I'm sorry. They are lads from the woods.

6. Wonder when people will finally wake up and smell the coffee
sorry but the manufacturing jobs are all being sent overseas.....because Big Corporate America is looking for people who will work for nothing....

Funny but...how the hell can a worker afford to buy a freaking car from Michigan or nice sheets made in the South if they don't make enough money??? Henry Ford even understood this...and he was a goofy bastard ..

10. for the REAL unemployment figure anywhere . . .
multiply at least by 2 . . . "official" unemployment figures have always been bogus . . . they don't include those who have completely dropped out of the workforce and are no longer seeking employment . . . so if the official number is 7.1, you can bet next month's salary (if you have one) that the real figure is more like 14.2, if not higher . . .
