Spanish arms deal to provoke US
March 31, 2005
Times
By Edward Owen

SPAIN further undermined fragile relations with the United States yesterday when it unveiled the biggest arms deal in Spanish history to supply President Chávez of Venezuela with ships and spy planes.

Diplomatic ties between Madrid and Washington have been strained since the Socialist Government withdrew its troops from Iraq and urged other countries to follow suit.

But the two countries’ differences pale alongside Washington’s open contempt for Venezuela under Señor Chávez. According to Condoleezza Rice, the US Secretary of State, Venezuela, the world’s fifth-biggest oil exporter, is a “negative force in the region” and a threat to US security.

The £895 million deal includes patrol vessels, mini- corvettes, supply ships and military transport and surveillance aircraft. It was brokered by José Bono, the Spanish Defence Minister, who insists that his country no longer “goes on bended knee” before America.

1. I laugh at Bush and his love of democracy
His admin has tried unsuccessfully from day 1 to bring down the legally elected Chavez. I know Chavez has withstood at least one recall that was promulgated for the most part by our own CIA.

3. Spain, not France.
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 10:44 AM by higher class
Spain stood by a country where many people are of Spanish descent and whose national language is Spanish; a country that appears to have the most powerful country in the world (for now) making threats against its President.

France did not stand by a country with whom they have had a historicl tie and whose national language is French. France sided with the U.S. in the removal of a duly elected President and are supporting ruthless felons in the mis-rule of the coutnry.

All is not righteous in Europe. Add Britain, for example.

Congratulations to Spain - who is NOT standing up against the us, but who IS standing up against this President and the pnacer/cabal who have utter contempt for duly elected Presidents, elections, and rights (anywhere) and whose eyes, taste buds and pockets are oily.

P.S. There is supposed to be undeveloped off shore oil wealth in the Caribbean near Cuba and Haiti?

4. Take a look at the New world order.
Expect more of this. Lots more. The world is realigning itself, and the US XXX'ed out.

The New Players: Russia, Iran, China, India, Brazil, Venezuela.

Some Hesitant Bystanders who will align themselves with the New Players: Central America, South America, Mexico, SE Asia. Maybe even Canada.

Europe is sitting on the sidelines. They will be one of the last to accept the new reconfiguration. Same with Australia. No, I don't have a crystal ball. Just common sense.
