Schiavo judge drops out of Clearwater church after inquiry
Schiavo judge drops out of Clearwater church after inquiry
------------------------------------
Clearwater, Florida - The Clearwater judge hearing the legal fight over Terri Schiavo's feeding tube has dropped out of his church after the pastor inquired about his continued membership.

Calvary Baptist Church says Circuit Judge George Greer had not regularly attended services for years.

The pastor wrote a two-page letter this month asking why Greer hadn't transferred his membership elsewhere after criticizing the church.

Greer had complained that his church didn't come to his defense after the Florida Southern Baptist Convention editorialized against
his rulings in the case of the brain-damaged woman.

Clearwater's Faith United Church of Christ has invited Greer to join.

1. I hope Greer joins the UCC!
This is the kind of "stepping up" by progressive Christians that everyone has been arguing about. The UCC is making a public statement by extending an invitation; I just hope Greer takes them up on it. That would be really good PR, if the corporate media covers it...

6. This is exactly the point the UCC's tv ads make
Everyone is welcome.

I grew up attending the UCC and my family mostly still does. I attend a Unity church, which is equally welcoming, but more of a new-age church. I respect the UCC for taking the stands that they do on public issues.

Calvary Baptist Church is not a place I would continue membership in.

4. This is only half true
The original story suggested that the pastor ASKED Greer to leave:
