10. They cannot just let go.
Their financial and socio-political career future, and that of those who are goading them to do this, cannot allow just letting go.

Someday, the real and true story of what went on inside the Schindler "Inner Circle" will come out. What will be revealed will horrify many.

21. I am sure it is, but I have lost a child myself, and I truly believe there
are far worse things than death. I was fortunate enough to know my daughter's wishes, so there would not have been this kind of fight going on (since she had made it clear to me she would never want to 'live' like that) and though I am glad I was spared making that decision, I think it would be FAR worse to see her in a nursing home, to see her deteriorate, to see her unable to be with her children, to see them grow up, to know that she was just a shell - gift wrapping with no gift inside...
My heart does ache for them, but I can't say I understand their position. Part of a loving relationship is knowing when to let go.

I know what the dynamic is, and I know they'll have nothing left when she goes, that her body has been the absolute center of their lives for fifteen years.

But come on, people. Getting turned down multiple times ought to give you a clue that it aint gonna happen.

a couple, 2 other kids that I know of. Grandkids? Friends, if they have any true ones left 'cause they'll be dropped quickly by the "funding friends" of the cause.

That's the best that I can hope for them.

and have suspended her in this state for 15 years.

They need to let go.

This poor woman put herself in this vegetative state because of the way she perceived that she looked... and yet her parents have had no qualms about blasting her photo world wide looking like a bed ridden shell of herself.

If I were her I would want to die so I could come back and haunt them.

34. Can this be considered a "frivolous lawsuit"?
I don't mean to be nasty. I have my own way of looking at this case, but I can empathize, to an extent, with the philosophical pro-life position which SOME of the supporters put forth, although I strongly object those bastards who are distorting or misrepresent the science to back up the philosophical argument -- but this has gone on, without ANY change of decision in the courts, ALL the courts.

Why is the Schindlers' endless re-trying of this case okay, whereas some poor soul who got maimed by medical malpractice, or on the job, who is being pressured by the Bush administration not to sue their "do-no-wrong" doctors in order "to keep insurance and medical costs down", who tries to get compensation, is laughed at by these Republicans? Another case of authoritarian hypocrisy?

Gee, it's one thing to want to preserve the life of a loved one, but I truly believe the judicial process has carefully investigated and weighed out this case over a period of many years. It's more cut and dry than any of Bush's infamous Texas executions, which he showed such "resolve" about, and yet a faction of people want to think there is some hope in this case. Truly, the wisdom in this case is to let go. The Schindlers had the right to contest the case in the first place, but why they continue to do so in such a high-profile and sometimes hysterical manner raises questions about their motivation beyond that of merely wishing to keep a loved one alive. ...

There was this wonderful story on CNN about a lovely man that was dying of cancer. His ENTIRE family respected his wishes.

At this time in what "life" Terri Schiavo has, it should not be spent battling in court.

I pray that this poor lady passes away peacefully soon. This fucking zoo has shown the worst in people and not the best.

17. At what point do they violate the law by filing frivolous lawsuits?
This is why we have a limit on the number of appeals isn't it? Just because someone doesn't like the verdict they get doesn't mean they can inundate the court system with appeals until they do get a verdict they like. If everyone did this the courts would be too tied up to get anything done.

23. All right. Here's a question I haven't seen answered:
How much money are the Schindlers' lawyers making off this bullshit?!

I mean, the way I look at it, the Schindlers are basically out of their minds. They want Terri to be able to recover so bad that they have lost touch with reality. You know what, losing a child is a terrible thing and a lot of people go a little crazy when it happens to them. Their craziness happens to be driving the rest of the country crazy, but that's not entirely their fault (blame Tom DeLay, I do, it's more fun).

But. The lawyers do not have a child of their own dying. At some point, one of them should have said basta. They've got to know what they're doing is bullshit that has no chance of success. Why do they keep taking their money?

Ah well,

The Plaid Adder

36. Saw a lawyer from the group representing Schindlers today and was shocked
Apparently he told the producers that there were outside groups influencing the Schindlers. He said some groups are using the family to advance their own agendas. When questioned about what he told the producers, he didn't deny it, he just talked around it.

He was also quoted as saying that he didn't feel anything would come of the further requests to the courts. He became uncomfortable and said they had the legal standing to do it. He also went on to say that thousands of calls from across the country are coming in, telling them every possible way to present the case to the courts..and that these calls continue to keep hope alive for the Schindlers.

I couldn't say for sure what show he was on. I'm thinking maybe Linda Vester. I just happened to catch his segment.

Terri's blog--funny.

Perhaps funny because, you know, people in PVS can't type on a blog. They can't really do anything, which is what makes it funny. And if she COULD type, I doubt she would type gutteral sounds (considering she makes the gutteral sounds, you know, because the part of her brain that controls language and speech is nothing but fluid).

Michael blog--stupid. It's not funny because Michael HAS the ability to post in a blog.

32. I really do pity the Schindlers
they seem to have been brainwashed by the fundamentalist Christian extremists who have clustered around their daughter as a "cause" - being fed false hope and false promises. It's all going to end in tears and I wouldn't be surprised to hear of both Schindler parents passing away by the end of this year - of broken hearts.

Randall Terry, the False News Network and the rest couldn't give a rat's ass about Terri Schiavo as a person - to them she's just the vehicle to push their own agenda, and now that things aren't going their way they're going nuts - look for this issue to pull the trigger on the "nuclear option" to pack the courts with ideologically pure Scalia/Thomas clones.........

50. I don't feel sorry for them
The thing that really gets me is the sheer irresponsibility of their request. Don't they realize that if they get their way - if they, her parents, get to overrule her HUSBAND, it will set a precedent that will send shock waves through our society as we know it. It will put into question right of married couples to be the primary decision makers for each other.

I'm a lesbian and already get to live in legal limbo where my wife's parents have decision making rights over a person I have lived with and loved for over twelve years. If the Schindlers get their way, it could put every single married couple into this exact same situation. Which is why the courts won't touch their case with a thousand foot pole.

That's when I start thinking that these people are really selfish bastards.

The Shindlers have some sort of deepseated guilt/anxiety over Terri's incapacitation...maybe thoughts of personal responsibility regarding her eating disorder that caused this whole fiasco.

54. What happens in THIS scenario- Schindlers "win"
and Terri's feeding tube is reconnected.

Say that they are able to counter any organ failure that has no doubt occured since tube was removed.

So Terri is allowed to "live". Custody is granted to the Parents. THey are now her sole decision makers.

So the Schindlers, not being necessarily young, go on living for another 20 or 30 years, the entire time, Terri is hooked up to a feeding tube (and at some point, a respirator, ventillator, etc) and just 'vegging out' (pun intended) for that whole 20 or 30 years.

What happens when the Schindlers die? Does Terri then have to remain in a TOTALLY permanent vegetative state FOREVER?

Technically, someone can live technically forever while they're hooked up to artificial means of life support. So how long after her parents die is she allowed to die as well? Would guardianship be appointed then to any living siblings, who also stand by their parents and disagree with the removal of life support? What happens when THEY die?

Theoretically, Terri could live for another 130 years as long as she has life support measure in place to keep her vital organs "functioning" (I would argue that the Brain is THE most vital organ, but that seems to be lost on many who are Anatomically and physiologically impaired, so I'll leave that be).

If her parents "win", is this woman bascially sentenced to an unnatural life-span of being hooked up to more and more tubes, more and more monitors, as her life function decreases with every passing day?

Will my great-grand children be hearing about the 200 year old woman who is STILL hooked up to life-support machines because of the disagreement from her very distant relatives as to what to do with her body?

As much of my post is facetious, the main question is serious==what happens when her parents die? If they WiN any court case, will the idea of her ever "dying" be moot since there are medical procedures in place to prolong life even when it's not there?
