WASHINGTON - The United States is holding about 10,500 prisoners in Iraq, more than double the number held in October, the military says.

About 100 of those prisoners are under age 18, said Army Lt. Col. Guy Rudisill, a spokesman for detention operations in Iraq.

1. Let's compare; bush versus Hussein.
But "Saddam was the worst dictator ever! and disappeared MILLIONS!

Read what the Human Rights Watch has to say about the "disappeared" in Iraq; "No details were available about the fate of the approximately 16,500 people reported “disappeared” in the last ten years, mainly ethnic Kurds and Shi’as but including the approximately 600 Kuwaitis reported to have been in Iraqi custody but unaccounted for since the 1991 Gulf War."

http://hrw.org/worldreport99/mideast/iraq.html

Bush's own website agrees with the 16,500;

"In 1999, the UN Special Rapporteur stated that Iraq remains the country with the highest number of disappearances known to the UN: over 16,000."

http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/iraq/decade/sect4.html

IN THE LAST TEN YEARS.

bush has "disappeared" 10,500 give or take a few murdered Iraqis, in TWO YEARS.

Saddam wouldn't let human rights groups into all prisons?

Neither will bush;

Saddam arbitrarily arrested innocent Iraqis? Tortured innocent Iraqis?

So does bush;

And an interesting (and very telling) FACTUAL comparison:

How many American POWS died, from any & all causes, while captured by the insane and lawless North Vietnamese during the entire 11+ years of the Vietnam war?

114.

108.

You aren't on any "moral high ground" any more, America.

PS: This is not LTD posting. This is only someone who looks incredibly like LTD posting. While LTD's hubby is away for 2 days LTD would not sneak back into DU. So stop saying this is LTD! :D

6. Well I looked at America, and then I looked at Truth...
and I decided Truth was the more important thing. And much more beautiful. And as human beings can, of course, only do the either-or thinking, my love for Truth automatically means I hate America.

Used to be a time in evolution (oops I said the e-word!) when humans were capable of more than 1 thought and/or emotion at a time. Back then, during the Shades Of Grey era, I could have loved Truth AND America. But no longer.

Backwards evolution. (oops I said it again!)

:D

*Also sarcasm, although rightwingnuts won't understand that, of course.

3. I would like to point something out
This is something that Bushco would never understand; I do, perhaps because I come from a very close family. Each arrest, each instance f torture, and death, doesn't affect just the wife, and children. Like my family, their families are large, extended, and have extremely close ties.

For the over 10,000 imprisoned, count on many, many more vowing revenge. Just in my own family, I could count on brothers, cousins, their husbands or wives, nephews, fathers and mothers, 2nd and 3rd cousins, uncles...it's something that Chimp doesn't' seem to realize.

His family is more a business partnership than anything else, I've never seen him or Laura show any particular affection toward their daughters, for example. Then factor in the fact that the vast majority of the detainees are innocent, and the rage will be even more, and the hatred even greater.

The crap he spouts about freeing the poor, innocent Iraqi people rings very hollow to me, when our soldiers are ordered to kill and terrorize as many as they can. And for all this, they expected flowers being thrown? I wish all these neo-con war mongering chicken hawks and their religiously insane fundie friends would just go back to whatever universe they came from and leave the rest of us alone.

5. I read the other day that they are saying NONE are women.
yeah right.

I also don't believe for a minute that only a hundred of these are under 18, I think someone dropped a zero, at least.
