Mrs. Bush Defends Gov't Role for Schiavo
MILDENHALL, England -- First lady Laura Bush said Tuesday the government was right to have intervened in the case of Terri Schiavo, a severely brain-damaged Florida woman whose case has stirred national debate about life and death issues.

"I just feel like the federal government has to be involved," Mrs. Bush said. "It is a life issue that really does require government to be involved."

Mrs. Bush commented on the Schiavo case aboard a plane bound for Afghanistan, where she was to promote education and women's rights.
....
Mrs. Bush said she has been encouraged to hear that the case has prompted more people to inquire about living wills.

"I think that is really good," she said. "The president and I have living wills and, of course, our parents do. They wanted us always to be aware of it. I think that it is important for families to have opportunities to talk about these issues."

The hypocrisy of it all is maddening. What is so special that our government virtually stops for the "existence" (not life) of one shell of a white woman who probably would not have wanted to have been in this state for 15 years?

"I just feel like the federal government has to be involved," Mrs. Bush said. "It is a life issue that really does require government to be involved."

There. She said it all. As only a non-politician can say it, Laura Bush put into terms everyone can understand.

The government is going to intrude into private lives. And this is justified by a feeling about certain life issues.

Translation: we're going to be arbitrary, and we're going to be in your face about it.

41. Good Translation
They actually think government can do a better job than families can?

And, they think that since it is george's government now, the government is somehow better and knows it all?

What about the WMD, which they 'knew' was in Iraq?

Methinks the government cannot be trusted. Methinks this is about as bad as an American government can get, and now they want to run over families with a "government that has to be involved" in every life decision ?!?!?!?

Laura, who the fuck cares what you think? How did you feel when your husband mocked a woman on death row? How did you feel when he signed the death warrants for more prisoners than any other governor, often without even studying the files? How did you feel when you saw those smashed bodies that had been tortured, raped, lit cigarettes put in their ears and live wires hooked to their genitals? How did you feel when blood was dripping from the bodies of small Iraqi children after your husbands shock and awe show for the viewing pleasure of proud Amuricans?

Fuck you,you ignorant callous bitch. How do you look in the mirror without seeing the faces of all the lost souls the BFEE has killed without them looking back at you into the black abyss of emptiness where a human heart should be.

45. They want Schiavo dead.
Am I the only one who sees this? A Republican judge "defies" the Governor, the U.S. Congress, and the pResident. He has decided that a woman should die because she is too disabled. Congressional subpoenas are issued and then ignored. Florida law enforcement officers claim they will arrest even Jeb Bush or George if they try any rescue. The Bush brothers claim their hands are tied and the "rule of law" prevails.
Give me a break.
The Bush gang WANT this woman dead. They could make this judge go away permanently if they wanted to. They don't. They want him to prevail.
The Republicans are fascists, and this is the commencement of the Solution. This is their Social Security solution, their health care solution, their AIDS solution, and ultimately their political solution.
It's a Republican judge, Republican Congress, Republican pResident and it's happening very conveniently in his brother the Republican governor's state. There is no conflict here. There can BE no conflict here.
The death camps are straight ahead.

The Bush's are back in the saddle again on this ....

WASHINGTON, March 29 (UPI) -- First lady Laura Bush said Tuesday she believed it was right that the U.S. federal government became involved in the Terri Schiavo case.

"I just feel like the federal government has to be involved," she said. "It is a life issue that really does require government to be involved."

Bush made the comment to reporters after boarding a flight to Afghanistan, where she was to tour a women's teachers training facility, meet with President Hamid Kharzai and have dinner with U.S. troops outside Kabul.

66. But she's glad there was no fed law when she killed
her young friend by running a stop sign. She was never charged. Maybe she doesn't think young males are deserving of federal protection? Someone should see if indeed Bush did a robot transplant into her brain. She's totally void of critical thinking or independent thought.

69. Wow, then I guess the federal government is going to be quite busy
Intervening in hundreds if not thousands of personal matters like this.

Call me a commie liberal, but I think that the federal government should focus on the real problems with this country and not trying to rewrite the Constitution to appease the radical fundamentalist minority.

71. NYT: First Lady Says She and President Have Living Wills
First Lady Says She and President Have Living Wills
By ANNE E. KORNBLUT

Published: March 30, 2005

Laura Bush said on Tuesday that she and her husband have living wills that would guide medical decisions if either of them became incapacitated like the Florida woman whose case has dominated public debate for weeks.

Mrs. Bush, speaking to reporters on a flight to Afghanistan, called it a "very, very difficult time" for the family of the woman, Terri Schiavo, but said she was "encouraged" to hear that the case had spurred others to create living wills.

"I hear the numbers of people inquiring about living wills or writing living wills increased dramatically, and I think that is really good," Mrs. Bush said. "The president and I have living wills, and of course our parents do, and they wanted us always to be aware of it. I think that is important for families to have an opportunity to talk about these issues."

Susan Whitson, a spokeswoman for Mrs. Bush, declined to elaborate on what directives are in the Bushes' living wills. Many include "do not resuscitate" orders in cases where the patient has no hope of recovery or requires extensive medical assistance to stay alive....

74. Why do they need Living Wills?
They don't believe there are any grounds for withdrawing life support, do they? After all, that would be promoting a "Culture of Death".

76. Laura..is this a crime?
on my chat boards they say taking the tube out of terris is a crime...and you think the gov should get involved.....
answer me this:

its a crime that other Patients at Hospice have to endure bagpipes.horns drums..honking horns ..chanting singing and unnecessary chaos that the religious freaks are creating.its a crime that relatives have to go through these protest mobs......

Its a crime when school kids have their school closed.because of the protesters.airplane banners.sex offenders prowling in the crowd....
Its a crime when the PP goes along with the staged arrests and told how to arrest and how many.just to stage photo ops..

Yes a crime is being committed and its against kids and patients of Hospice and the People of Pinellas Park..who will have to pay for this circus and clean up your smelly mess...by the way.where are you all showering and taking a crap?

82. i think the court disagrees
Birch went on to scold President Bush and Congress for their attempts to intervene in the judicial process, by saying: "In resolving the Schiavo controversy, it is my judgment that, despite sincere and altruistic motivation, the legislative and executive branches of our government have acted in a manner demonstrably at odds with our Founding Fathers' blueprint for the governance of a free people - our Constitution."
