Negotiations bog down in General Cable Corp. strike (RI)
LINCOLN -- As the strike at General Cable’s Lincoln plant enters its fifth day, negotiations between management and the union representing workers appears to be at a stalemate. <snip>

About 190 workers from the United Steelworkers of America Local 4543 are on strike. The union is resisting General’s call for its workers to pay for part of their health care coverage.

The Highland Heights, Ky.-based General Cable, which owns 14 U.S. plants, bought the Lincoln facility in 1992 when it acquired Carol Cable. The 387,000-square-feet plant manufactures industrial and specialty cables.

Union members have continued picketing outside the plant this week.
