Schiavo's Parents Appeal to Supreme Court

By JILL BARTON, Associated Press Writer

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. -

.....The neurologist, William Cheshire of the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, is a bioethicist who is also an active member in Christian organizations, including two whose leaders have spoken out against the tube's removal.

Ronald Cranford of the University of Minnesota, a neurologist who was among those who made a previous diagnosis of Schiavo, said "there isn't a reputable, credible neurologist in the world who won't find her in a vegetative state."

The long-shot custody request by Bush was made before Judge George Greer, the same judge who has presided over the case for several years and ordered the feeding tube removed last month. Greer planned to decide by noon Thursday on whether the case would go forward. He issued an emergency order Wednesday to keep the Department of Children & Families from reconnecting the tube.

The Florida Legislature also jumped back into the fray, but senators rejected a bill that would have prohibited patients like Schiavo from being denied food and water if they did not express their wishes in writing. The measure was rejected 21-18........

1. I doubt the SCOTUS will take the case. They've already turned it
down twice.

I expect to hear sometime tomorrow they've turned it down.

5. (Here's Reuters) Schiavo Parents Appeal to U.S. Supreme Court
Thu Mar 24, 2005 12:07 AM ET

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (Reuters) - With time running out on their hopes of keeping her alive, the parents of brain-damaged Florida woman Terri Schiavo urged the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday to issue an emergency order to resume tube feeding.

Lawyers for Bob and Mary Schindler made the request late in the evening to Justice Anthony Kennedy, after being twice rebuffed by a U.S. appeals court in Atlanta earlier in the day.

"Without a stay from this court, Terri will die a horrible death in a matter of days," attorneys for the parents said in a 40-page written request seeking an order to stay, or halt, any further withholding of nutrition and hydration.

Schiavo, 41, who suffered brain damage from a heart attack 15 years ago, was expected to live only one to two weeks without the feeding tube.

6. I thought I saw something earlier today about DeLay and Hastert
taking this to the Supremes, too, but now I can't find it.

If Kennedy turns it down, is that the end of it, at least as far as this route can go?

The U.S. Congress and * have said they have done everything they can do, But now Jeb has bribed some doctor in Florida to re-diagnose (via Video tape) to say she's "Minimally Conscious."

Now Jeb's trying to get the Florida Health and Human Services to "Take Legal Custody of Ms Shivo, PLUS, the Parents Lawyers HAVE file the necessary papers with the SCOUS.

This such disgusting hypocrisy on SOOOOO many levels.
