City Seeks Dismissal Of Anti-War Protesters' Lawsuit (Chicago)
Several Arrested After City Denies Activists Permit To March

POSTED: 1:08 pm CST March 23, 2005
UPDATED: 1:51 pm CST March 23, 2005

CHICAGO -- The city wants a judge to dismiss a lawsuit by demonstrators denied a permit to march where they wanted downtown last weekend because an anti-war protest had already taken place, but the plaintiffs said Wednesday their rights were violated and the complaint should continue in court. <snip>

Andrew Worseck, an attorney for the city, told U.S. District Judge William Hibbler on Wednesday he would file the motion, saying that since the March 19 protest already took place, there is no reason to continue a hearing on the case. <snip>

The city denied two permit applications the coalition had filed seeking to walk down North Michigan Avenue to Federal Plaza, at Dearborn and Adams streets, on March 19. <snip>

The march was to not only protest the Iraq War, but also the arrests of hundreds of people at Michigan and Chicago Avenues who were protesting against the war on March 19, 2003, according to the lawsuit. <snip>
