Fla. Senate Begins Debate on Schiavo Bill

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. The state Senate began debating a bill Wednesday that would prohibit patients like Terri Schiavo from being denied food and water if they didn't express their wishes in writing.

(snip)

"Whatever it is, today is it," said Webster, a Republican. "I don't even know if I have a majority vote."

(snip)

"By the time the ink is dry on the governor's signature, it will be declared unconstitutional, just like it was before," said Miller, a Democrat. "So I don't see anything or any language that can persuade my vote."

But at least one senator said he was considering changing his vote Wednesday morning.

"I'm praying about it," said Sen. Gary Siplin, also a Democrat. "I don't want anyone to die who doesn't have to."

4. Mr. Siplin...
If you don't want anyone to die that doesn't have to die... just bring our troops home from Iraq.

Otherwise STFU.

6. a bill Wednesday that would prohibit patients like Terri Schiavo
In Terry's case, wouldn't it be an ex post facto law?

Could it even apply to her if they get it passed and signed?

Working on my living will.

10. Seeing as the feeding tube has already been removed...
most likely. And it'll be declared unconstitutional quickly enough anyway.

to once again illegally use the legislative branch of government to usurp the judicial branch. These people are consistently proving that they have no use for the law. The simply want what they want are willing to do whatever it takes to get it done.

I would suspect that if this doesn't work, Jeb will probably declare a state emergency and have the police force the hospital to feed Terri.

On another note, Jeb is saying that people should not resort to violence, so I guess that means that some fundie groups are making noise about hurting people if they don't get their way Possibly because the Atlanta court just handed them another denial. In other words committing criminal acts, which makes sense because these people are in fact, criminals.

Not sure but I thought I just heard Jeb say something about taking Terri into custody.

On Edit:

Yep, I guess the law they are trying to pass in Florida is to allow the state to take Terri into custody.

13. About that violence thing.
I hope Mr. Schiavo has some protection, as well as the judges who have ruled in this case. Whenever Randall Terry is involved, bullets inevitably follow.

12. It is time for the American people to remove the feeding tube of the GOP.
The republican party insists on forcing the government into our living rooms, our bedrooms, and now our hospital rooms. The American people need to wake up.
