Exclusive: GOP wipes fundraiser list as heat rises on DeLay

By John Byrne | RAW STORY Editor

As attention grows on campaign fundraising and the relationship between top Republicans and a lobbyist under multiple federal investigations, the Republican National Congressional Committee has erased all online records of fundraising events for the last three years, RAW STORY has learned.

Previously, the website listed all RNCC fundraisers dating from late 2002 to the present. Now only an error message appears, though several months are available in cache files (here, here and here).

The scrubbing appears to have occurred shortly after RAW STORY placed now-Sen. Vitter (R-LA) at a $1000-a-plate fundraiser hosted by the fallen lobbyist Jack Abramoff during the same time Vitter was meeting with Abramoff’s staff to arrange a provision favorable to the lobbyist’s tribal client. The last cache files date to Mar. 12, four days before RAW STORY revealed the event.

Also in attendance at the dinner was House Majority Leader Tom DeLay’s (R-TX) deputy Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA), who had signed a letter with DeLay encouraging the Interior Department to rule favorably to Abramoff earlier that summer

1. As Orwell said in "1984"- Truth? What truth?

Oceania was at war with Eurasia now, but just four years ago, these two had formed an alliance against Eastasia. Winston remembered this clearly, but it made no difference what he or any other individual remembered, for the Party said that Eurasia had always been the Enemy and what the Party said was the Truth. This, thought Winston, was the most frightening aspect of the party regime-that it could obliterate memory, turn lies into Truth and alter the Past. The Party slogan was “Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past.” This was where “doublethink” came into play, minds were trained to hold contradictory positions simultaneously and unquestioningly- for example you had to believe at one and the same time that Democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy. Winston could remember a time when the Party did not rule, when Big Brother had not become all-powerful; but according to the Party they had always existed and this lie was repeated ad infinitum until it “became” the truth. This, Winston thought was a far more terrible weapon in the hands of the Party than torture or execution.

Its interesting how the scum all gravitate to the same party.

5. And as the media starts to pay attention (finally)
Delay's whiney self is coming forward. He stated to a fundie group that "God sent Terri Schiavo to us " to show the 'direction the country is going politically'. CNN is playing the tape. This after claiming they're not making it political and if the person who wrote the talking points memo was out of his office they "would be fired" (a lie). Now he is of course blaming Democrats: "They're out to get me." Poor baby.

7. Doesn't "erased all online records" mean potential evidence tampering

is going on? Can someone force the RNC to retain this info and stop destroying it, or is that asking too much?

14. Sounds plausible to me.
Someone definitely needs to point this out.

Plus, doesn't somebody have screenshots of the records?

8. Does this mean there isn't any money?
So now there were not any fundraisers and no one attended. That must mean there is not any money. There must be a paper trail somewhere.

Wonder what rules they will change now?

13. cover up
Only one part of that history that isn't happening. No special counsel. I wonder if anyone is truly investigating Delays dealings. It may all hinge on that lonesome DA in Texas.

I have thought several times if the Republicans didn't Ken Starr us to death just to get rid of the Special Council because they knew what they were going to do just as soon as they didn't have to worry about a real investigation!

Special Council should've been investigating DeLie back in 1995; but Democrats were too afraid it would appear to be an act revenge for the Whitewater bullshit.

19. Ronnie Earle is a tough prosecutor!
Earle is the Travis County DA and if there is anything to get it will be acted on! The only possible problem is the Texas Legislature is maneuvering to remove jurisdiction from Travis County. remember that Delay put a bunch of these guys & gals in there in order to redistrict our Democrats out of their seats.

I'm just a fairly new DU member. But the more I read...the crappier I feel. The fact that such things can occur and not be even questioned by the MSM is one more symptom of our country's ideals going down the tube. Shit.

In my darker moments I just feel terribly sad.
